429cuin need replacement carb

Remove this ad
Hi Guys,

Hope someone who has had a similar problem will be able to help me, I have a 65 Convertible deVille with a 429cu in motor and a Rochestor 4 Jet carb on it, I have had continuing problems with this carb and have spent a fortune on it, I am now at a point where I would like to just biff it out and replace it, my question is where can I get either a guaranteed replacement unit or an alternative carb that will still fit this manifold and connect to all of the vacuum's and other bits and pieces that attach to the original carb. I won't be doing the work myself, I have a good mechanic who specialises in old American tin but I do live a long way away in Auckland New Zealand. Can anyone help?

Re: 429cuin need replacement carb

I wish I could help but my memory only goes back as far as '66. I know GM was using good Quadrajets in '66 but I'm not sure if that was the first year or not. I guess any carb can only be rebuilt only so many times and after 45 years it may be beyond help. I would keep searching Ebay; I'm pretty sure they must show up there. If it was an actual Rochester Quadrajet like they used in 66 then I'm sure several older Chevy carbs with a divorced choke and pre-cable accelerator should bolt right on. Good luck.
