That's gum and goo formed by the PCV bleed....there's practically no flow in the secondaries unless you drive with your foot in it, so the calm, cool parts
of the manifold tend to condense snot.

Stuff a lint-free rag down in that side of the dual plane and merely scrape (carefully) the bore and pull it all out with the rag. Finish off with carb cleaner.

Do I scrape with the rest of the rag? a blade? I assume that steel wool would be a particularly bad idea . . .

Do I have to worry at all about the carb cleaner getting into the engine?

I blew it with those images. Usually I convert to 160x120 thumbnails and use them as a link to the whole picture. By the time I realized what I'd done,. it was too late

I even have a script that does them, then automatically uploads to that website, and another to make the links in standard html. I suppose I could add to that to make one that uses the bracked IMG and URL tags here . . .
