472 fuel pump with or without push rod

Remove this ad
hello,
i plan on having a fuel pump changed on my 73 deville. does anyone know if the fuel pump for a 472 has to be connected to a pushrod that sits under the cam or does the fuel pumps arm just sit under the cam with no push rod? can you literally take it out of the box and install it or do you recommend any lubrication to the pump and arm? any tips on the install will be really appreciated!!
THANK YOU!!

Re: 472 fuel pump with or without push rod

The fuel pump is driven by a camshaft eccentric. So, in other words, the fuel pump arm rides directly on the eccentric. The eccentric pushes the arm downward. To aid installation, you may wish to crank the engine until the eccentric is at its low point (which is actually the upward most position). Use a light and mirror if necessary, and look through opening where the pump mounts.

Pre-Lubrication of the arm should not be necessary as it will quickly get oil run-off from the timing chain and camshaft sprocket.

Good luck !!!
