| Re: 472 fuel pump with or without push rod The fuel pump is driven by a camshaft eccentric. So, in other words, the fuel pump arm rides directly on the eccentric. The eccentric pushes the arm downward. To aid installation, you may wish to crank the engine until the eccentric is at its low point (which is actually the upward most position). Use a light and mirror if necessary, and look through opening where the pump mounts.
Pre-Lubrication of the arm should not be necessary as it will quickly get oil run-off from the timing chain and camshaft sprocket.
