What do I have???

Remove this ad
I thought the day would never come that I could afford a cadillac! Well, I guess I clarify that........I only own the engine. It looks like a big one. You see, I bought a rat rod '61 ford truck and it came fully equipped with what I was told is a cadillac engine. What are the give away characteristics of a big cadillac engine? I know that the firing order on the back of the intake says 15634278. On the front right of the intake the number 1605061 is stamped. On the front left DMN is stamped. On the back left of the block the numbers 1495200 is stamped and on the back right of the block the numbers 650116704 is stamped. Does that mean anything to anyone? I am also trying to figure out what 3 speed transmission is mounted to that motor. On the driver side of the case there is cfm8641710 stamped. I definately know it is a 3 speed with 1st gear all the way toward the seat (floorshifter), then 2nd, 3rd, neutral, reverse, (another click), and the park all the way forward towards the firewall. Man that's alot of typing! I appreciate any inputs as to what I might have.

Brian

Re: What do I have???

Well the block number ending in 5200 tells you, you have a motor made from 1970 to 76.. It is a 472 or a 500 cid... Checking the stroke will tell what one you have... measuring the stroke with a wire in the spark plug hole..4 1/16" is a 472 and 4 5/16" is a 500....

Thanks drmenard. Does anyone know a part number for 1970-76 exhaust manifold gaskets?

Re: What do I have???

All 1968 to 79 use the same gasket.. but they did not come from the factory with them..my experence with composition gaskets is they don't last long before they start leaking again...If I had to use gaskets, I would get some copper ones from MTS...I just clean and go metal to metal with maybe a little high temp RTV....
