I just bought a 1971 Cadillac Coupe Deville. I has a rebuilt 472 from a '74. It runs pretty good right now, but I am going to give it a solid tuneup. So here are some of my questions.
1. I definitely want to switch to HEI, and leaning towards the Pertronix Ignitor. Any reason to get the Ignitor II instead? Worthwhile to upgrade to Flamethrower coil?
2. Anyone run a performance cam in their 472? Which ones are good, any links or names would be helpful.
3. Header suggestions? Heads suggestions?
I guess I don't want to go too crazy or expensive with the engine mods. I won't be racing it or anything, just nice to have a little power and a good sound. and a good ride. Thanks.

They can be had for about $125.00. Cam is a different subject. There are some Caddy speciality dealers out there that can get you what you want with just a bit of info. Potter Automotive in Chattanooga http://www.cadillacperformanceparts.com/ Also http://www.cad500parts.com/index.htm
and http://www.hwforums.com/2089/ . Lux Hauler know a guy that he got some parts from that is pretty good with Caddys. Maybe he will chime in(I think his name is J Walker)

If you put a high lift, long duration cam in an engine running stock manifolds with no port work and stock compression, you'll end up with a horrible running engine that you'll hate to drive. Slightly wilder than stock cam with a good 2-plane intake and the shorty headers will give you a much more drivable vehicle. For some simple cam choices, check out MTS's site... |

Now I can not find him to make him return my money, so if you have contact that he can be reached for real it would help me a lot.
Thanks,
