Compressor seized, please help....

Remove this ad
Hi, thanks for reading

it's a 1969 deville with a 472 engine

My AC compressor has seized, melting my belts !!! Wish I had spotted the signs sooner.

I'm not bothered about AC working or not, but the belts it uses run my power steering pump. I had been planning to remove the compressor until I had the cash to get the system working again... Now I have no power steering, which I'm sure you guys know means NO steering at all - I'm not schwarzenegger you know

Can I just order the belt for the non AC car? (i think the non-AC car has a single pulley, mine has a double) and use two of them???

Anyone please help ...?

Jon

Re: Compressor seized, please help....

If your not going to run the compressor, you can get one shorter belt..one belt will work fine...now you have to find the right size...

I think belt length is in the part numbers of the belts.
Adjust the tensioner to mid position.
Run a string around the pulleys you want the belt on and tie it tight.
Cut the string off or move the adjuster to get it off.
Tell them at the parts store you want your belt in the string length.
It should work out.
