    I hope someone responds to your new pictures because I am curious. Maybe Benzilla can confirm that his vacuum lines are routed the same way? It looks like your vacuum advance is connected to manifold vacuum instead of the ported vacuum from the carburetor, and I doubt that is the stock setup. (Don't quote me.) Is that fitting thing connected to the distriubutor or did it just happen to be laying underneath it? The mechanic that was trying to help you pass emissions may have hooked some stuff up funky.

    just another thought as well. My 76 deville 500 was driving me crazy with poor idle and no power at all. finally found out the egr valve (the big round bulb thing behind the carb) had jammed open even after I had disconnected all non essential vacuum lines. i just freed it up and hey presto perfectly running car
