    Technical help 307

    I just bought a 1987 fleetwood with a 307. Engine was overheated. I have a 5.1 that came out of a 1980 olds. Will this engine work in my caddy if so can I swap the heads and intake from the 307 to the 5.1. help

    A 5.1?? That'd be what, a 318? No, that's 5.2 Mopar... I need more details on these 2 motors.
    As for an engine swap, the keys are tranny bolt up, and computer. The cars are old enough to be kinda dumb, but not totally comp free.

    I am sorry the engine out of the olds is a 301 and the engine out of the cadillac is a 307.

    Are you sure it's a 301? That would be a Pontiac-built motor and the only thing it has in common with the Olds-built 307 motor in your Caddy is the bellhousing bolt pattern and the distributor cap. More importantly, Olds didn't use the Pontiac 301 in 1980, so either that's not the original motor or it's not a 301. The only V8s that were installed in Oldsmobile cars in 1980 were either Olds-built motors (260 or 350) or Chevy small blocks (265 or 305). What type of Olds is that motor out of and what's the fifth character of the VIN?

    By the way, 301 cu in = 4.9 liters
