    1989 Cadillac Brougham D'Elegance hesitation

Hey guys, first time user of this forum, and a new user at that. I have a 1989 Cadillac Brougham 307 4BBL . Runs and ildles great at first. Once you have been driving for a while, it seems to loose power does not stall or quit but looses power none the less. It is almost like when driving a manual transmission and you miss a gear go from 1st to third it staggers and slowly rebuilds momentum. Does not happen all the time but when it does you really notice. Just curious on anyones thoughts on this one? I have replaced the fuel pump and line spark plugs cap and rotor fuel filter. It has a new fuel tank so fuel is definatley getting to the carb. I have taken it to a tranny shop and they told me it was a fuel problem. I took it to a mechanic and he said it was a tranny problem. I have also reset the TV cable cause I read that this may cause this sometimes. any help would be great !

Start with the vacuum lines. Check for any leaks. Let us know what you find.

Definitely have the vacuum line checked and replaced. But I had a similar problem with my 89 Brougham d'Elegance. where at about 20-30mph, when it shifts from first in to second, it would suddenly feel like there was no power going to road. Also when I would try to stop, the car felt like it was pushing, much like if you were to try to stop a car with a manual transmission in second gear.

The local transmission shops were more than happy to tell me that a needed to spend $2,000, $3,000, or even $4,000 on a transmission rebuilt. I finally found one that would listen to my problem and they fixed my car. It turned out that the only thing I needed was $45.00 Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid.

This sounds like my problem. I figured the torque converter was going bad. The tcc solenoid is on the outside of the valve body, correct? Tearing into automatic transmissions have always scared me for some reason...

You have to drop the pan to change the solenoid.

This PDF file has a grainy photograph of transmission with the pan off, but you can get a good idea of where everything is.

Yeah I know I have to drop the pan...I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to take off the valve body. I will have to replace the solenoid tomorrow and see if it makes a difference....Thanks.
