| Re: 1980 5.7 tbi question The tbi (throttle body injection) is a reliable and simple system of fuel injection. TBI injection is less efficient and antequated when compared to direct port injection found on most modern vehicles. Multi port injection is more efficient, and usually frees up more horsepower than TBI. With regards to being a "stand alone" form of injection...it is not. You will need a computer to controll the fuel injection on the engine. Those computer units can be purchased at almost any parts dealer nowdays, and painless wiring makes a wiring harness for guys like you who want to upgrade their old truck to fuel injection. The only stand alone fuel injection I know of is mechanical fuel injection, which you might find on some antique car somewhere.
