I'm willing to bet that you're wrong. My second-generation CTS was ~$1500 cheaper than my first-generation CTS, and it came with far more options.

I looked at the early posts of the CTS GEN2 and I don't see as much debate on the price. Also don't forget the GEN2 CTS had a price reduction of about 2k - 3K late 2009 which brought it even closer to the previous generation.

With all the technology put into the new CTS, it's not like i expect the price to remain the same... but the engines are esstentially carry overs and much of the platform is shared with the ATS. I even saw the Chief Engineer say that they reduced manufacturing costs on some sub assemblies... all that does not justify the 20-30% increases we are seeing. So they added a lot of aluminum, Corvette did it without a big bump and they also share the electronic differential too...
if they can show superior reliability and performance for another few years, then they can consider pricing with the germans...but then again every time you take a Mercedes in for service... expect to pay a G note. I don't think anyone who owns an american car would think that a reasonable service cost.

Sounds like you got a good deal, but the 2007 gen1 to gen2 change was a large bump in price, I saw a lot of people smack into that price hurdle back then

    2007 Base CTS = $29,925......2007 Then equivalent to Premium CTS = $38,885
    2008 Base CTS = $34,975......2008 Premium CTS = $45,640

Then again, maybe you didn't get a deal and went from the old top to the new bottom. If I had one I could trade in a 2013 premium and get a 2014 luxury with a lot more stuff and pay a few grand less too, but that's not really the point of this thread. As you can see the previous change brought with it a ~$5000 to $6000 change across the board. This change is bringing a $6000 to $15,000 change across the board and the discussion is whether or not this is too much, not my uncles frat bro got me a deal therefore the new CTS is too expensive
