How to check the coolant level
Forgive the seemingly retarded question but how does one check the engine coolant level? The tank tucked up in the driver's side rear of the the engine bay has a 'cold' line that runs across the TOP of the reservoir. So I have no idea how to judge the level when the fill line orientation defies gravity.
Also noticed the neon pink Dexcool stuff smells heinous (like gear oil). Is that normal? My previous cars have all used a more traditional lime green antifreeze.
Re: How to check the coolant level
It took me awhile to figure it out. If you follow the line down the right side to an inch below where the black top meets the white bottom of the purge tank you'll see or feel a small tab which is the cold level mark. You'll need a dental mirror and flashlight to see the arrow pointing to the tab. The coolant does smell funky.
