Hi Y'all,

I haven't been keeping up with the threads in here so I know I risk posting old news, but I wanted to get down my impressions and the little I was able to glean from the product specialists here.

First, the aesthetics: this car is just f u c k i n g beautiful, full stop. I knew from comparing the pics of the new CTS to the in-person car that pictures really lie, and that's true here as well. For starters, don't worry about the underbite in the splitter in front... I thought it was ugly in the pictures but in person it doesn't look bad at all. The front grill, which looks way too big in pics, is in fact gorgeous. It's not mesh like ours; instead, it's more structured and less dense; it looks cast.

The chrome trim doesn't bother me as much as I thought it might, either. I think about all I might do is !CTS and !littleGMsquares and then roll. :D

I haven't yet been able to sweet talk the presentation girl into letting me onto the platform to see the interior more closely, but I remain hopeful.

Info from the product people:
  • Fall of '09. Manual transmission will be standard; auto with paddles behind the steering wheel will be optional. They're "guessing" the base MSRP will be "somewhere in the 60's."
  • They're claiming 550 torque and 550 "plus" horsepower because the engineers are still trying to tweak more out of the engine.
  • 183 MPH ungoverned top speed. Zero to sixty in under four seconds.
  • The engineers are working on all wheel drive as a future option.
  • The CTS coupe will come out in 2010, and there will be a V version of the coupe in 2011.

183mph, I predicted 185+. Oh well, I was close. Now for the important stuff. You're in Michigan right? It's about 22* there. How long are your nipples right now? How long are the show girl's nipples. Extra $20 in it for a picture. Not of your nipples by the way. :lildevil:

I walked back to the hotel without a coat. My nipples are rock-hard.

I'm married so of course I didn't even look at the girl's tits...

Oops, yeah. Fall of 08.

Update: I found the same guy ("Cliff") who let us up on the platform in Dallas, and he set it up for us to go up there again. Tony schmoozed him and the lady in charge and had them thinking we were all dealers or something. It's gogeous up close, too. The steering wheel material still looks kinda weird to me but it feels good and I'll get used to it. We were able to slide under the car and poke around, but have no new info to report that hasn't already been posted.

We have a couple of good "man stew" pictures with the car that the lady took using Tony's camera, but we have no way of getting them onto a computer right now. I blame Tony.

We has started to drink...

We don't have a computer that will read his memory stick, and he didn't bring USB cables. I can hold his camera's LCD screen up against the laptop screen while the laptop is displaying the forum, but that's as close as I can get.

Reasonably sure.

Maybe.

Radio Shack, Best Buy, Wal-Mart even drug stores live CVS, Walgreens sell multi card readers and/or have the machines to extract the photos. You just need to be honest and say you'd rather spend your time there looking at cars and drinking than going and hunting down some card reader. :p

I just need to be honest and say that none of us thought of that, and what's more, nobody here really cares about a picture.

My head hurts.

Most all of the pictures I took are things we've all already seen in the magazine and web coverage. lawfive, bigjim, JimmyH and I managed to get on the turntable and get a good look at the underside of the car, the rear diff and the paddle shifters. The paddle shifters are supposedly being redesigned after testers commented on accidentally hitting them while turning, and the massive body colored XM antenna on the roof is being reduced considerably before final production (this is a change on all '09s, not just the V).

I agree that the car looks far better in person than in pics- much more cohesive and well designed than the pictures (which can seem almost cartoonish at certain angles). The GM reps at the show were pretty cagey about certain bits of info, but apparently they are extremely happy with how the performance numbers stack up against the M5. I also wouldn't be surprised if the final SAE certified horsepower is a bit more than 550.

This is really the only "interesting" picture I've got (unless you count us mugging for the camera or lawfive laying on the ground under the car. :D).

I was wondering why we couldn't see the shifter paddles. Also interesting that they can still change it. Just goes to show how much "just in time" inventory/supply is at work here.
