Does it replace the stock one? Iris it an added HX?

to be honest one isn't needed for street driving. if you track it then one wouldn't hurt.

    Re: Heat exchanger?

Some replace the stock one, Some are added to the stock one,

With any boost increase I disagree that the stock one (its tiny) is sufficient for any sustained application of boost. Put a gage to IAT2 and a couple pulls on the street and you are easily at 140F (where ECM starts pulling timing) and it takes a long time to settle down. With added HX it takes much longer to approach 140F and comes back down very quickly.

Personally I run a added W4M HX and it works great with the stock one. I also run 90/10 water glycol mix with NEO keep cool water wetter in the intercooler loop. IAT's are very manageable even in 90F+ weather. $400 is cheap insurance and performance

less heat is always better, you may not notice KR on a road course as you are rarely WOT for long but adde boost= more heat= less power= why did you increase boost in the first place if you are giving 5hp back per degree of KR. $400 is a worthy investment in my opinion.

Which HX is $400? Katech is twice that.

I also have the W4M heat exchanger. I bought it from him a couple weeks ago. Fairly easy install and nice quality piece. Just gets installed in the lower grill and is in addition to the stock unit.

Do you notice a big difference in your IAT's? Does it help lower engine temp as well??

    Re: Heat exchanger?

yes the W4M makes a big difference in IAT2 and helps IAT2 recovery time after some heat soaking. Any HX will work better with 90/10 water glycol mix and then use a good water wetter (still need to increase gycol in winter for freezing concerns).

HX will not improve engine coolant temps. Intercooler loop is a seperate cooling loop. About the only thing you can do to reduce engine temps is go to a 160F thermostat AND get your fans tuned to turn on sooner and stay on longer. A 160F stat on its own will do nothing.

    Re: Heat exchanger?

Im still not sold on the aftermarket HX idea. Blocking the front grill with an aluminum brick doesn't seem the best route to go, especially in warm climates.

    Re: Heat exchanger?

Agree T2D, For your climate it is not a great idea. But here in the states we dont have that concern of being so hot that blocking most of the lower grill can cause issues with the actual radiator flow. I can't think of anywhere in the US that gets as hot as Dubai.

You would be a great candidate for a super chiller type set-up.
