Opinions on Continental Extreme Contact DW

I really appreciate the Michelin PS2's but for daily driving, Im not sure of the cost. Anybody try the continental Extreme contact DW's? My PS2's have lasted about 16k miles and they're just about at the wear indicators.

    Thanks!

I liked the DWS and might get them as a year-round tire, but these are still a little new and don't show up in surveys. If I wanted a summer tire with a track record, I'll go with the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11; significantly cheaper also. Yes, they are ONLY rated for sustained speeds up to 168, but I'm not worried about going over that for long periods of time!!!!

I don't see the Re-11's in our size.

Yeah, I saw that Jim. Pretty close numbers. I guess it all boils down to cost.

I too need new tires at 15k. I am planning on replacing them with Hankook Ventus, which got positive reviews here:

And there is a member on this list who has had a good experience with them.

Has anyone ever attempted a group buy on tires? tire rack or discount tire?
seeing how well KPE did with the group buy maybe we can save money by buying in a large group.

If we needed 50 sets of tires I would think we can order from a distrubutor. I have an EIN number I can use.

Yeah, you have to search by size only since they are "only" Extreme Performance Summer and not "Ultra Performance Summer". 168 MPH vs. 186+ MPH.

I got a settlment check from a large class action suit against Continental on their crappy Touring Contact OEM tires used on 300Cs/Chargers. Tread life was horrible. I'll be avoiding the brand unless I see some amazing reviews.

I've been running the hankooks for over 6K miles. I've been very happy with them. You have to break them in and play with the tire pressure. The sidewalls are stiffer which can feel a little funny during the break-in period.
They don't have as good of a grip as the ps2s, they easily spin even in 2nd gear takeoff. But overall very good. also have them on my 996tt rears and the m45.

    Hans.

Tires are generally a low profit margin for place like the TireRack which is why their prices are always the lowest or close to. Tire stores will match prices because they can make money off the service and upkeep down the road. I don't think you'll ever see a group buy on tires unless it's because they've been marked up a bit...

Re: Opinions on Continental Extreme Contact DW

I ended up going with the Continental Extrememe contact DW. The tires are REALLY smooth and quiet. Sidewalls are a bit softer so they are not as responsive as the PS2's. I chose them primarily because they are lighter, and yes, less expensive. There's a good amount of tread on them, we'll see how well they hold up as DD's. I am running them at 33psi.
It's nice having such a special car, the guys at the tire shop knew the car and treated it well (not banging up my wheels, replacing the aluminum valve caps).
