Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 for '09 CTS-V - anything special?

Several articles have mentioned that Cadillac and Michelin engineers worked together to develop the Pilot Sport PS2's for the '09 CTS-V. Does anyone know what they mean by this? As far as I know, the PS2 line has been around for at least 4 years or so. Do you suppose it was developing the exact fitment for this car? Just curious--first time I've ever run Michelins...

Sometimes, a tire manufacturer will be called on to develop a tire as a car is developed. Sometimes, a slight difference in tread compounds or tread patterns are developed for said car. If you look at the Tire Rack, many tires sometimes have small lettering for BMW or Porsche or even the NSX. That may be the case for the V. Hey, Goodyear never had a F1 Supercar EMT in 245/45 18 until the V was produced.

Michelin won the contract over Goodyear with the ZR-1 by producing a tire that was consistently 1.5 seconds faster on track when GM ran tests.

The PS2 is hands down the absolute best performance tire out there. Not only in the dry, but in the wet also. The amount of lateral grip in the wet is astounding. I've burned through several sets of these on Audi S4's and they are worth every penny.

If you are a performance minded driver, the PS2 is the way to go. Try mounting a Sumitomo Z-rated tire on a set of wheels (they are less than half the price of the PS2's). And, do a back to back test with the PS2's. There is NO comparison whatsoever. The PS2's cost twice as much, and for a good reason.

^ Oh, no question--I can see that there is a strong consensus about how good the tire is. But since the PS2 line has been around a lot longer than the V2 program, I was just wondering if there was anything special about the V2 fitment as a result of the "Cadillac and Michelin engineers working together on it."

While the PS2 is still one of the best DOT tires available in a wide range of sizes, time marches on. It's been surpassed in dry grip by tires like the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 (which will be surplanted by the AD08 in a couple months), Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, and Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R, not to mention every single DOT-R tire currently available (like Michelin's own PS Cups).

Heck, even many other tires have some aspects or another better than the PS2 in back to back direct comparison tests:

The good thing about the PS2 is its all around performance: consistancy, high though not best wet/dry performance, reasonable lifespan, predictable breakaway characteristics, wide size availability, and noise level.

Hence my question about whether there was anything "special" about the PS2 fitment for the V2. I've no complaints thus far, but I'm a big fan of the Neovas (I run the AD-05's and AD-06's on my Miata); I don't believe there's an AD-07 fitment for the V2, but I'd certainly consider them (or AD-08's) come replacement time if there were.

Some interesting reading on GM's Tire Performance Criteria (TPC) program. Ever notice the little "TPC" lettering on the sidewall of your GM vehicle's tires and wonder what it means?
