Good point Dean. You could easily do the first Gen conversion for half the price of a new V. With the Germans having a middle model with a V8, cably image GM pasing up that segment. Probably another 6.2l 420 hp CTS in coupe or wagon with manual option.

I was actually thinking about doing exactly this. Then, I saw the new car and REALLY liked it. Especially the interior, the factory hp with warranty, AND the suspension and rear end appear built to handle the hp.

I test drove an '05 V and there were two things I didn't like. First, I drove my MN6 C6 to the dealership before the test drive and noticed a huge huge difference in the feel of the transmission. I expected the body roll but the transmission felt terrible. Then I started reading this forum and came across thread after thread of 'how many rear ends have you gone through?' That made my decision easy. I will wait for the new car.

I hear ya Dean, but you left out the cost of replacing the rear several times or spending $7k - $10k on a custom one that will hold that power.

    Dean,
Valid comparison, if you don't like the price of an new '09 V, modding the original (and better) Gen I is a win, win option.
Just remember the Maggie will add about 100lbs to the Gen I V.
Then again, always drive around with no more than a half tank of fuel, pull out the spare tire tub, flake some paint of the Nav buttons, and tell your honey (s?) that due to weight concerns, they can no longer wear clothes in your V.

Plus this car is supposed to have a special traction system to help it launch really well and with touch screen Nav, no chipping/peeling buttons.
With larger projected production numbers there should be more of these available a few years out to pick up as a certified pre owned if one won't be able to afford it new. Plus any quirks should be known and worked out by then via TSB or recall.

You could get a Vinnie scooter and put NAWS on it. That will save you another $28,000.

Try taking your '04 V in for warranty engine work after you've bolted on a blower. The new V is simply better in every category except weight. It is a superior machine in all material respects and will be worth the money. The '04 V was a CTS with a big motor thrown in it. The '08 V is a performance luxary sedan from the ground up. If you can afford it = no brainer.

I have a blower and I have had 3 rear ends replaced under warranty. Just depends on your dealership. I agree with you on your other points though.

While agree that the new V will be a thing of beauty, I absolutely have to disagree with your statement that the first gen Vs were just "a CTS with a big motor thrown in it." Last time I checked the 2004-2007 CTS-V shared alot more in common with a Corvette than a CTS. The majority of the driveline, including the motor, the transmission, the clutch, (unfortunatley not the diff), was different than a CTS. The brakes are different. The stock suspension is different (27% stiffer), and that's not even counting the FG2 shock upgrade. The sheet metal is different. The exhaust is different (larger diameter pipes). And lastly, price increase definitely reflected that whole increase in potential performance of the total package rather than just a bigger motor.

In fact, now that I think about it, the only two things that the last gen CTS-V had in common with the CTS was the name and the interior.

Sorry, I just don't like to hear people hating on one of the sweetest American ultra-high performance luxury sedans ever produced.

EDIT: I checked your profile and is says Cadillac...so I am willing to bet money that you don't currently, nor have you ever, driven a real live CTS-V, yet you are so sure that you know the difference between the 04-07s and the 09 Vs. That just won't cut it on this forum. Peace out.
