    Emergency brake noise?

I have had my '12 CTS-V Wagon for about 18 months. It had 7000 miles on it when i got it and 20,000 now.

Since I bought it when the emergency brake is set it starts with the normal actuator noise, but the last second sounds like metal rubbing on metal. Sort of a grinding or scraping noise.

Since my wagon is a manual transmission I set the emergency brake every time I park. Passengers always ask me if something is wrong with the car when I set the brake. The sound greatly detracts from an otherwise wonderful car.

The local dealer has looked at 4 times so far while doing other routine services but hasn't solved it for more than a week or so on any trip.

Has anyone else encountered this? I didn't come with anything searching.

Well, the ebrake is a brake so you will have metal to metal when it is engaged. I don't remember a very pronounced sound when engaged, but it does make one.

Any sound clips or video clips to show?

Agreed. Especially when it "sets in". I know mine does.

I apologize for the quality. I set the brake a couple times and you can hear it faintly. It is louder in person.

I'll try and grab one from outside the car.

Here it is from outside the car. You car hear it a lot clearer. I set and release the brake 3 times in this video.

I have never had a car with an electronic emergency brake before so maybe it is normal, but the loaner XTS/CTS/ATS I have got from Cadillac didn't make a sound when setting the emergency brake.

You can just put it in gear instead, if that sound bugs you or others.

    That doesn't sound right.

Try to determine if it is coming from actuator or brakes.

Mine sounds very similar to that.

Here is what mine sounds like for comparison. It sounds similar. But is a bit quieter and the end. Hope this helps.

Is that entire whining sound before the click, the process of the e-brake engaging? Mine never took that long and the actual engaging of pad to metal took less, too.

Almost like your ebrake is underpowered...

My 2014 manual wagon e-brake is totally silent. I wouldn't mind a little sound. Sometimes I am a bit too quick on the switch and it doesn't set the brake. I have to look at the dashboard to see if it is working.

I dont know if it matters but I have a manual coupe and its always sounded like that. You dont here it normally. Its just exaggerated being in a quiet garage.

Agree - mine has a slight sound as it engages/disengages, but nothing like your recording. Yours doesn't sound normal to me ...

It's also the length of the engagement. Mine never took nearly that long to engage...
