    Spare wheel

I'M heading out on a road trip next month & would like to take a spare wheel along. Does anyone know of a donut wheel that will fit our cars?

    thanks

    Re: Spare wheel

    weechie,

I have just purchased a spare kit for my 2012 CTS-V sedan from performancespare.com.

I just put the Performance Spare tire into my trunk yesterday, and it fits fine there. At this point, I am impressed. Good product, quick shipping, good packaging. I would encourage you to spend a few minutes on the Performance Spare website before you decide.

I think that the price for this spare kit is quite reasonable. The kit comes with the wheel, mounted tire, scissors jack, jack handle, wheel spacer, and a lug wrench.

I spoke with Randall Maddox at their contact number, and he was most helpful. This spare is not a looker. It is not a 5-star mag, just a functional spare tire. Of course, we all hope never to need our spare tires.

+1 for the spare tire kit. You can't just buy a donut wheel; you need the spacer to clear the brakes.

    Re: Spare wheel

Instead of starting a new thread, just thought I'd ask here.

Already have the factory spare tire kit for a CTS, and now just need the spacer. Can anyone clarify that what I need is a 1.5" spacer with 14mm studs pressed in from the following link? Much appreciated...would hate to end up with the wrong part.

    Re: Spare wheel

Just ordered a tire/wheel package from Performance Spare. Looks like a no muss/no fuss deal. Only problem I see is that my 2011 Coupe doesn't have an adequate sized well in which to mount the tire/wheel combination. So, I guess, I'll just have to sacrifice a bit of luggage space....but, in the long run, better than being stranded in the middle of nowhere and/or tearing up a $500 wheel.

    Re: Spare wheel

    mrk4543,

I was surprised to hear that the Performance Spare doughnut will not fit into your spare tire wheel well. My 2012 CTS-V Sedan came with 19" wheels, and the spare tire well was sized for an 18" doughnut. The spare that I received from Performance Spare was an 18" doughnut, and it fit fine. Admittedly it was a bit snug, since Cadillac decided to carpet the wheel well when they left out the wheel, but it easily fit deeply enough into the well that all of the factory cardboard and carpeting above the spare fit fine.

Have you spoken with Randall Maddox at Performance Spare? If not, I would encourage you to give him a call.

I haven't received the package yet...should be here next week. We'll see how it goes....I gather you are referring to removing the entire cardboard/carpeted liner in the trunk compartment?

    Re: Spare wheel

I am going to post about my street tire "spare" for less than the performance spare (and no adapter!) This week.

Short answer: 18x8 Drag wheel $125 off amazon prime. $150 225/35/18 tire $150 locally or <$100 online plus mounting. $15 scissor jack.

Just going to verify fitment but the 225/35 should be 24.5" total diameter fully inflated - which is perfect for the tire well.

Advantages are no adapters, ~9" tread and a standard street tire with no mileage or speed limit (ie prudent and reasonable) to get you home for under $300 shipped.

A 215/35 is even smaller (<24" diameter) but has a lesser load rating than ideal.

Again, I'll post this week once I get the tire in and verify fitment.

    Re: Spare wheel

    mrk4543,

No, I did not have to remove anything but the "spare tire repair kit" that came standard with my 2012 CTS-V Sedan. Once that silly thing was out of the way, there was plenty of room for the jack, jack handle, lug wrench, wheel spacer, wheel, and tire in the stock spare tire "tub". There is quite a bit of room for other tools as well.

The Performance Spare spare tire (18" doughnut) fit into my 2012 sedan tub without my having to remove any carpeting, and there is still no visible evidence of a spare tire living in my trunk. The spare tire itself was what I call a "snug" fit, but my (petite) wife can easily insert and remove the spare tire.

    Re: Spare wheel

As I noted earlier, I'll wait until the package arrives. From what I can tell, the tire well in the Coupe is not the same as the Sedan and Wagon...appears to be much smaller. Has anyone placed any of the spare tire kits in the well of a Coupe? If so, could you please post a picture?

    thanks
