    Squealing brakes

So a week after the track day my brakes started Squealing with low pressure on the brakes. It got to be unbearable.

The service guy today said that the pads and rotors were glazed and had to get resurfaced. They charged me 230 because for some reason this isn't covered under warranty or maintinence. I have a feeling that I just got fleeced. My V is only 2 years old with 10k miles. What do you guys think for future reference. Just didn't have the time to deal with it at the time.

Hell, GM was replacing rotors for clicking at one point and they're gonna give you crap because yours squeal? Live and learn, man. I think if you complain a bit you may get refunded. Just a thought.

Yeah, that's why I was surprised when they charged me to fix this. Sigh.... service manager said they really only informally cover stuff like this for a year and I've had the car for 2 years.

    Re: Squealing brakes

they cut your rotors? A caddy dealer? They didn't cut your pads....but for $230 total they probably didn't replace them, either.....

    Sounds fishy.

    My brakes squeal. that's ok.......

Removing glaze does not mean they cut the rotors, you can use a rough grit sandpaper and a polisher and just go over the rotor surface to remove glaze. Same for pads. Its easy to do, getting charged that amount seems about right.

"resurfacing" sounded like "cutting" to me. I have "deglazed" rotors with sandpaper or emery cloth (or.....attempted to) but I didn't think dealers were doing that. Never tried doing it to pads....maybe it's worth a try.....

he said they cut them. They are pretty rough. They sanded the pads. he said that you need to do both since the glaze on the pads can glaze over the rotors again.

I'm still kind of annoyed they glazed after 1 track day.

If you get aftermarket aggressive pads, they shouldn't glaze after a track day.

FWIW, my stock pads never really had the same bite after a track day.

Thanks for the advice. I'm glad the squealing is gone. It just seems odd it would happen after 1 day even with stock. Wasn't a very high speed track either and wasn't pushed too hard. Good to know though that it's possible

Bring them some info on bedding brake pads and see what they say.

    Re: Squealing brakes

The squealing returned after a couple of weeks =/ It's not as prominent as before but it's back. ugh.

Oddly It takes the rotors to get warmed up a little before it squeals now.

They "should" have a 30-day warranty on parts installed like my dealer does, even non-warranty things.

You tracked your car, you can't expect GM to pay for your brakes. The pads are designed for a daily driver, not for lapping. It's a completely different application.

    Re: Squealing brakes

My stock pads cracked and broke from tracking and they replaced them. Since it wasn't normal "wear" and they broke into pieces (w/o damaging the rotor), they figured it was abnormal.

Funny, they sold me the car on a track and bragged to me about how track ready it was.

All joking aside, I did pay to have it fixed and that's why I bring it up because it's still squealing
