    Ultraview wind noise when open

Do you guys with the ultra view sunroof notice the air deflector makes the sun roof far noisier than if there was no deflector? As the roof opens, a plastic deflector raises up automatically (it just has metal attachments that kind of spring load it to raise). If I'm driving along, the deflector makes an annoyingly loud rushing wind sound. If I reach up and hold the deflector down, it's far quieter and just has a deeper sound. Overall, I find it much less intrusive without the deflector raised.

What do you guys think? I can't find an easy way to hold the deflector down or remove it.

How about if you kept a piece of black duct tape on the side of the center console and slapped it on the deflector when you need it?

It is annoying that there is more noise with the deflector. The Ultraview has two 2 set settings when sliding back. 80% and 100%. If you keep it at 80% its much quieter. But I always likes mine all the way open and tunes cranked...

This has been true of every vehicle I have owned that had a sun roof.

I used to use the vent feature to avoid wind noise or just turn the music up. If you can find a way to remove the deflector, and be able to reinstall it later, give it a try. Good luck.

I noticed this also. I usually just leave mine closed though. Thought briefly if I could devise some device to hold it down but never put much thought into it. If you do please let us know.

Actually it is easy to remove/install. I had mine off about 2 yrs ago. Easier with two guys, but it snaps into place - no tools required.
Quieter without it, but the wind buffeting is... different.

The deflector inserts into each of the lateral rails. I'll have to see if there's an easy way to disconnect it. I'll keep you guys posted if I figure out a reasonable workaround.

Yeah - it's annoying. Try cracking open the back windows an inch (if you don't have a coupe). That helps a bit. My wife's '07 SRX has a similar Ultraview setup but with a taller fabric-like deflector that is much quieter. Wonder if this issue has been addressed in the new CTS...

    Best regards,

    Elie

OK, got the deflector off. It's simple actually. Here's how to do it:

    1. Open the sun roof all the way.
    2. Follow the metal air deflector supports toward the rear of the car. You'll see they insert with a little hook on each side of the sun roof.
    3. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, push down on the hook that's protruding and with your other hand, push the deflector towards the back of the car.
    4. Repeat on the other side.
    5. Gently disengage the front of the deflector from the leading edge of the sun roof.
    6. Once the front of the deflector is free, rotate is upwards and each support will now slip out and it's free.

You can read the steps in the service manual below too . Problem solved.

If you have the windows closed, and no deflector, you'll get pretty severe buffeting in the car.

That's why it is there. Just push it down when the windows are up and you'll hear a WUB WUB WUB WUB... That's what it prevents.

Maybe this is a non-issue, as 99% of the time my sunroof is open, my windows are too.

I have removed my deflector as well and it reduced the noise a lot.

I found little to no buffeting without the deflector which is why I took it off. Most cars get a nasty low resonance like you mention but my wagon doesn't do it. It's just super quiet now.

Mine is loud too but it quiets down pretty significantly when I put the HVAC air on recirculate...try it!
