Ordering a 2014 V Coupe soon... few questions

My current plan is to put an order in for a new V in the next month or two, to take delivery in early spring. I have it narrowed down to what I want, but could use some opinions/advice from the V gurus.

Note: I plan on leasing this vehicle for 15k/yr for 39 months. So resale and long term maintenance issues are non-factors for me.

    1) Recaros - I have not sat in them, nor does there seem to be any in my area. I'm a bigger guy... 6' 240, basically built like a linebacker; I'm 27 years old. Will I regret getting/not getting them? Is the 'seat rock' still a known issue on the '14s?

    2) Midnight Sapele Wood Trim Package - I've heard how some people see scratches very early on in their center console plastic, does this provide a more robust surface? Or is it purely cosmetic? Would you recommend this option?

    3) Color - Right now I'm actually thinking about going Opulent Blue, because A) I love blue and think its a sharp color that seems fairly unique to these vehicles and B) Although the V looks great in Black, all of my black cars have been a PITA to keep clean. I don't know if I've seen Black Diamond in person - is it worth it? Is it easier to keep clean? Is the Opulent Blue dull in low light? (I realize these are pretty subjective questions)

I'm 6'3" 275 with Recaros. I love them. The wood option isn't the issue. It's the black piano finish. Always bet on Black. If you have a garage it's no big deal.

Love the Recaro's (6'0) several 400 mile days have proven their worth to my backside. I have only sat in the stock seats for a short time so I can't say subjectively how they would be long term, but they don't seem as comfortable. As far as color, the OB looks great in person. Out here in the arid SW the black always looks like it has a coat of dust on it, garaged or not. Good luck on the purchase.

Re: Ordering a 2014 V Coupe soon... few questions

I had rented a few CTSs before getting my V WITH Recaros. The base seats are awful, especially for a big guy. And I'm built more like a DT. 6'1 and a "bit" more than 240. I put about 600 miles on a base CTS so I know the base seats. The Recaros are amazing. Long distance comfortable. I did 2,000 miles the first weekend I had my V. Straight shot from TX to MA. 27 hours straight from TX to NJ. STRAIGHT. I've done numerous very long stints. Long distance comfortable. I once badly pulled my lower back. The Recaros made my back feel better getting out than when I got in...

I'll address the color. OBM is like black in its upkeep and shows every scratch and dirt speck. But oh, does it sparkle when it's clean. It looks black in the dark but I would not call this color dull in any other light.

Really appreciate the input! Looks like I'll have to go with Recaros. The only reviews I had seen were from little fellas, so I just wanted to ensure my 'wide load' would fit in them.

Really? Thats surprising. I'll keep it in mind.

I really am torn on the color. OBM was my first instinct, but I don't know what color wheels or calipers to go with. And I am hesitant to get yellow calipers with the OBM, because everyone would think its a hat tip to my alma mater, U of M.

If I went BDT I'd probably go black wheels with yellow calipers... that just looks mean. Especially when tinted out.

If I had it all to do over again I'd go Maze and Blue. It doesnt have to be a tip to alma mater... The OBM is just awsome looking and would look great with red or yelow calipers. Imo.

I do love me some OBM!

I'm wondering why they don't allow the two tone Recaros when choosing OBM. Do you think it really would be that bad looking? How close is the saffron to the yellow calipers?

I might have to pull some strings to see if I can get them to custom build it for me. Guaranteed the only one on the planet like that

What's everyone opinions on the Suede wheel/shift knob? Has it worn out on you over the years? Most of the reviews seem positive on it, I don't know if I would get tired of it though.

I had the alcantara on my last V and didn't care for it much. Shows dirt, oil from hands, and the fuzz wears off pretty quickly. It is pretty easy to clean though. I chose real leather this time and am happy.
Having said that, most folks do prefer the swaade feel

Mine has close to 50k miles on it and it's fine. You clean it every once in a while and it'll last. I still prefer it over leather. As far as body size and the Recaros, I'm 6'3 240, and once I spent the time getting the seat adjusted correctly, it was very comfortable. I've taken some pretty long trips (6 hours) and it's been great. As far as Cadillac's current color offerings, if I were buying a new one I would get OBM, black wheels, yellow calipers.

Do you just clean it with a damp cloth?

I'm 6'3" 280 and love the Recaros. I wouldn't have this car without them. For a big guy, they are the perfect sport seats with their almost infinite adjustability and support. Getting in and out of them gracefully takes practice, but once you're in the car, you can drive forever without issue. The regular seats are decent entry-level luxury car seats, but decidedly NOT sport seats. In a car like this you really need the Recaros (IMO). I do wish the two tone seats were offered though. Black is great, but the tan inserts would spice it up a bit.

As for the OBM, it looks great in every light. In low light it is decidedly not dull, I've noticed that it shows a brilliant almost indigo shade. It is tough to keep clean though, almost as much so as black.

As for the midnight sapele, it's preference. I've heard folks who didn't go for it complain about the fake looking trim. I have no complaints with the midnight sapele.
