148 mph = parts fall off...

I was playing with a little 2 door Lexus last night and I wanted to see how much more I had after I thoroughly trounced him, so I kept my foot on the gas. At 148 I heard this thump! Thought I had kicked up a piece of old tire or something at first, but when I slowed back down I could hear the rubbing sound. I took the next exit and as I was pulling into a parking lot I saw a large rectangular object bouncing in my rear view.
Turns out it was my drivers side front brake duct. The back piece was all mashed up and melted, as was the inner fender plastic where it mounted to. They had pressed up against the wheel and melted from the friction.
Looks like I need to order me some parts! I think I will make sure I reinforce the mounting areas with some screws on both sides when I replace them...

Anyone have a link to a parts breakdown and part #'s for this?

Yup, the brake ducts have been known to do this on a couple of cars including mine. Replace the clips with much better ones and zip tie what you can. That's what I did.

There are multiple reports of this on the "other" forum, with parts falling off on the various "xxx Mile" events. Sounds like if you are planning to go this fast, zip ties to plastics under the car are appropriate.

BTW, I thought this car was designed to hold up at high speed. The 09s certainly were.

Great! Over the summer I am taking my wagon to Pocono raceway to see how fast I can get the car up to. Now I'm concerned about the car falling apart on me.

Good advice. Sent Luke an email, he answered me back in 15 minutes. I ended up buying a few extra parts from him just because of the excellent service!

Sounds like a warranty claim to me. I've been over 140mph multiple times and over 160mph a few times with zero issues on my '12 sedan.

Twice a year at the Texas Mile, the CTS-V guys attending will loose plastic pieces from beneath the car. If not the brake ducts, then the center splash guard tends to blow the pushpins out and drag on the ground or on the tires. One owner commented, "Zip ties dont help much at 190+"

What speed does a CTS-V get up to on the Nurburgring? Did Heinricy just get lucky that this never happened to him?

Is there a set of recommended reinforcements for high speed running, or do the Texas Mile chaps just hope they get lucky?
