Big Failure all at once... help

    Hey guys,

So I lost power steering, ABS, traction control and power e-brake all at once. I had the battery terminal disconnected for about 2 days. What could have gone wrong with all these going at once? Any ideas???

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike

I just noticed I don't have an AC belt. So that would explain the AC not working but would any of the other things be combined with this problem?

What is the year I can look up belt routing but it doesn't look like that would cause the problems unless it took some wiring harness with it when the belt came off

So you lost the AC belt from disconnecting the battery????? The AC belt only runs the compressor too. What did the dealer say about it? Is some of the story missing here?

Thanks for the input everyone. It was a computer related issue which got fixed with a simple flash at the dealership. The AC lost a belt. Unrelated to that issue, I disconnected my battery when I was hardwiring my escort radar detector. The plugging back in of the battery caused the computer to freak out and disconnect a module which controls ABS, traction, steering and e-brake.

Gone are the days when a guy can work a little on his own car. Now the dealership knows all about it... LOL

Probably when hooking back up the battery, it flagged low amp/voltage to the modules and they had internal dtcs set. The dealer probably just had to clear the low voltage codes from the modules and they fired right back up. They can be reset with a tech2 or scan tool that can do a MASS dtc module reset..

Disconnecting the battery though would not cause the belt on the ac to come off.. Not sure what is going on there....

Sarasota_krash, thanks for posting your resolution! (And thanks for the heads up, baabootoo!) I'm glad your dealer was able to determine the cause and provide the fix for you. If you ever have questions in the future, I'm just an email away.

Glad to hear it was relatively simple and painless to fix. Unlike other horror stories you read about here

For almost any car service you're supposed to disconnect the battery first. You must have the ignition off and disconnect the negative terminal. The computer then becomes stupid and there is a sequence to follow when you reconnect the battery to avoid driveability issues. It's something like leave the ignition on for three minutes, then start and idle for a few minutes. Hasn't anyone replaced a battery or recharged one without issues?

It's crazy to have to take the car to the dealer just to replace a battery.

When I hard wired my radar detector all I did was pull a fuse where I was messing around.
