I find that an odd reason. Personally I think all car navigation systems are crap because they cost more than my $200 android phone and does a poorer job navigating and staying up to date.

Well, went and drove the ZL1 today, nice but the seats put me just like the Corvette, very familiar. I'm trying to get away from the sitting on the l5 s1 area. Otherwise nice fun car but with the lesser quality compared to the Caddy.
    Recaro's all the way.
I did look into the nav problems and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Getting sick and tired of the fuel mileage in these things but yes, I know how it goes.

Did see the other thread including the picture of the 2013 front end, blue CTSV with the red calipers.
Oh baby! The one I'm looking at is a black 2012. As I type in this thread I'm finding that this may not be the car for me. Very yesterday in a way. Not to be negative about this car just a lot of down sides. Known problems, gas, side rear styling,

On the flip side, what a nice car in so many ways!

Cadikat, I see you and forum members are in the middle of a great discussion about your options! If you would like to email me with the last eight of a Cadillac's VIN, then I would be happy to pull up its build information and warranty parameters for you. Email me anytime at Katie_Lucille@gmexpert.com, and I would be happy to investigate any concerns further on your behalf.

Great site, great people and a wealth of knowledge, insight and experience from a whole community of hardcore enthusiasts! (just like here - but camaroZ28.com has a much broader "customer base" with 5 generations of Camaros!). It's definitely been awhile since I've contributed there (my bad) but my time on all the boards has been severely curtailed lately. My life has been totally turned upside down during the last year... still trying to recover.
Jason and Chris are both super, super guys... and Jason is also a fellow "disciple".

Jason strapped a GoPro to the ZL1 he was piloting around Spring Mountain that weekend at the end of March.. and I know those videos are up at camaroZ28.com - too lazy to provide the the link, but y'all can exercise your search skillz if you would like to check 'em out.

    Best regards,

Re: I'm worried about 2012 left over purchase...

the nav horror stories were problems with the update disc for people who were updating from older maps to newer maps
the update was not completing and basically locking up the system
as far as I know that's all in the past now
(and one of the main reasons that GM switched to using Nokia/NAVTEQ directly for distribution)

Thanks for clearing that up, Chris-

Hardly the kind of 'horror story' I was expecting given the OP's original description.

OP, I think the ZL1 is for you. You sound conflicted and unsure of what you want. At least the ZL1 will have that 'shiny new object' appeal. Can't go wrong with either choice!

When this car came out in November of '08, the infotainment was pretty advanced. It may not have been updated since but its still a good system. I've never had a problem with my nav.

Besides, a good smartphone is a very adequate backup...

I was in a similar situation.
Started looking at a ZL1 and ended up with a 2012 CTSV sedan.

I think that both vehicles look incredible but the fit and finish of the Cadillac along with the 4 doors were a major selling point.

The nav hasn't given me any problems either. It even got me to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway this weekend for the LeMons race, even though it didn't recognize the address, which is a dirt road off an obscure 2-lane highway in the middle of nowhere. It mapped out the highways very accurately.

BTW there was a Thunder Gray CTS-V wagon there in the parking area. That was unexpected.
