    Tires skipping in reverse

This is the first winter for my 2012 CTS-V coupe and now that the temperatures have gotten colder I have noticed that when its less than 40-50 degrees and the ground is wet that when I back out while making a tight turn with the steering wheel near lock the front tires feel like they actually skip and make a juddering in the front end. It’s like the tire rubber is being dragged rather than rolling. If I straighten the wheel a bit it goes away. This only happens in reverse.

This also occurs in the dry if the temperature is below 40 degrees although it is much less. Is this because the tires are summer only? I had factory summer Dunlop SP2000 tires on my BMW 540 for two winters and never noticed this condition. I just want to be sure there is nothing wrong with my car and I will probably have to get snow tires or drive my truck in the cold temps.

    Thanks,

    Steve D

I have had my Coupe CTS-V for two years now and it does the same thing. I also notice it when it is cold more than not. Also more when the driveway is wet. Not ice so much, as I don't drive it in that situation. I have always just chalked it up the anti lock system. I have not asked Cadillac service about it.

"Normal" given the tires and suspension/alignment.

I have a sedan and noticed the same problem. But after I replaced the stock PS2s with Hankook V12 evos, have not had any issues.

I bought our V last Dec. and thought that the skipping and noise was a problem. Once the temps rise, the noise goes away. Bottom line, don't worry about it, nothing is wrong.

Every year when weather turns cold we get the same questions about this problem:

Glad I found this thread. I just lowered mine and then noticed this when temps dropped. Couldn't find anything rubbing. Phew!

This is totally normal for the PS2s. Happened with my '08 CTS with FE3 and PS2s as well. Now that I have Continentals, problem has disappeared.
