Regarding the Curtis hitch, anyone have any idea why Curtis specifies this only for the CTS sport wagon and NOT the V-Wagon? Thanks!

The same Curts hitch will fit both "V" and "non-V" Wagon. As a matter of fact, there is no "V" specific hitch out there.

Great discussion on the trailer hitch. BTW I checked the CURT web site and they list this hitch as 50 pounds. It would be nice if they specifically tell you the compatible model of car on the web page, but they don't. You just have to know you've got the right part number!

As someone who has (bicycle) raced for many years, I can comment on the bike rack. For a long time, the roof rack was the only way to go. Trunk-mount racks are all crap, for several reasons. However, hitch-mount racks have come a long way. Assuming I buy the wagon, I think I would go with a Thule hitch-mount rack. They make swing-away models so that you can fully open the liftgate without removing the bikes. You get the added benefit of not having your bikes in the wind, so they don't get scoured by grit and bugs. You also have the peace of mind of being able to see the bikes, even if you don't have the sunroof.

CURT seems to have these for sedans, too. Anybody tried one?

It looks like the one for the wagon says "except V models." Yet...it fits?

Hitch bike racks are easy to access but roof racks are typically more secure. The advantage of being able to tow a small trailer (autoX and track day tires) would cinch the hitch for me though.
