Driving home from about a 3-4 hour road trip and about an hour out,

Wife says: Honey...I am thirsty...stop and let me get something to drink
Me: Uh-hmm Sweetheart you know the rules about drinks in the car
Wife: You are so paranoid. Just stop and let me get some water
Me: Okay...just one of those sport water bottles then

So we pull into a quik stop and I wait in the car. Out she comes with a 32 oz Ice Tea and a bag of PRETZELS!!!

Me: Uh...sweetheart the drink (pointing) and pretzels?
Wife: Oh come on...I think you love your car more than me
    Me: -Silent-
Wife: I will make sure I don't spill it in your precious car
    Me: And the crumbs?
Wife: Good grief...I was hungry. Here I have a napkin to catch any crumbs

Well as expected...while driving it became necessary to pass a vehicle that was traveling a little too slow and you know what happened next when I floored it. The wet side of my hip told the story.

    Wife: Opps

    Thats when the fight started...

    Ouch... I feel for you.

I am lucky because my wife is worse than I am....asks me to clean off my shoes before getting in her car. She forgets that I am the one who details it each week.

Ha haa! That's exactly why cupholders shouldn't be in high performance cars. Of course someone would have gotten wet in any event. Crumbly snacks (are there any other kind?) are worse.

I feel you, OP, I feel you.

I am so bad that I covered the entire rear seat with a blanket when I drove my family to Disney World in August. My son can be a messy eater, so this was a necessary precaution. For the wife, I am vigilent about where her drinks are in the cupholder. Or, I place my cup-shaped charger in the cup holder on my side so her drink is stable.

My car survived two 3k mile road trips this summer using these simple rules.

    needless to say. BLANKETS EVERYWHEAR!

luckily, I didn't have to remove him, he was pretty good. only damage was nose prints on the windows.

I don't worry too much about these things. I have two boys (1 1/2 years old and 5 1/2 years old) who ride in back in their seats and of course they can make the occasional mess. A good detailiing 1-2 times a year usually takes care of things. I clean up immediately after any mishap anyway. Just enjoy the car.

The fight should've come before leaving. If she insists on bringing a drink and you fight about it that's one thing. But to agree to water and then just not care and push the boundaries? That's a shame...

all I can say was that was a direct test against who is ranked higher, Your wife or the car, No doubt humans and wives are always ranked higher than cars, however she is fully accoutable for her insecurities. I got to think that you got some make up action to right the universe.

Well actually the fight ended up with one of those laughing moments about a hour later. I was wet all the way home, but after we got home we both worked on cleaning the car and laughing at ourselves over what happened. Wife is still allowed to have her ice tea in the car and I don't say anything...it was just funny afterwards and wanted to share for all those that have had the same thing happen to them.

It was like the first dent or scratch in the paint....the interior has been now officially marked and the pain is gone....lol

The bad part is that it seems like once you pop the cherry the other's come down like a water fall.

less than 1 year of ownership and I have had a tree fall on the car, I've backed into a metal stand and put a huge scratch on the other side, 1 door ding from unknown assailant, I've had my cat relieve herself in the back seat, and I've chipped the paint on the edge of the door twice.

Happened to me one time, stopped for gas, wife comes out with a drink and chips we were in my new SHO. Asked for a sip and some chips, promptly threw them both out the window and drove off. Yeah it was frosty in there for a while but no crumbs or spilled drink. It was worth to me.

I just had a pre-emptive restraining order put on you. You cannot come within 100 miles of my ride.
