That's the same question I asked in another recent post. It seems it does.

Besides, why would they do a recall if it's not needed in all cars? Mine is quiet as heck at 24K.

Re: GM found a fix for the supercharger rattle!

Here is a pick of the supercharger snout shaft wear thanks to the spring along with a pic of the stock couplers beside the solid one. These are the original snouts with stock pulley from my car and my friend's. His had pretty harsh wear, even at 5000 miles and mine was even worse at 25,000 miles (when I swapped). I would hate to see what 50K or 100K would be like with the spring coupler in place.

Say it wore down to pencil thickness. How would that affect the operation of the engine/supercharger?

I would not want all of that metal wearing into the bearings, that is for certain. The internal shaft is also what limits the spring movement in the coupler. As the shaft wears, it moves a lot more, which is the sound people complain about. Now, considering the very cheap plastic used, if the spring did not absorb the hit well from the supercharger spin, I could see the coupler disintegrating after time. Compared to the solid coupler, the stock one feels like a McDonalds toy.

Re: GM found a fix for the supercharger rattle!

I have noticed a slight rattle on my 2012 with 9,000 miles. I personally think that this is a piss poor design. There shouldn't be this type of bushing that is prone to wear.

When does this rattle set in? I have a 2012 V with 5k miles and haven't heard this rattling. I do have like belt squeal or a chirp at startup. I wonder if that is the first symptom.

Re: GM found a fix for the supercharger rattle!

    Hello all,

If this is a widespread concern, I am happy to document it for further consideration by my superiors. I am unfamiliar with this forum as I am filling in for Katie until Wednesday; are there other threads regarding the supercharger rattle you've described here? What model year(s) is this prevalent in? I would like, if you all are interested, to document your username(s) if you own a CTS-V with this concern.

    Regards,
    Sarah

Re: GM found a fix for the supercharger rattle!

Are there any shops in So Cal/Los Angeles that can install a solid isolator for me? I just took delivery of my car and I don't even want to remotely deal with a bag of marbles in a metal can inside my engine compartment.

Who can install this part for a reasonable price?

You could take it to D3 or Andy at A&A Corvette:

    http://www.aacorvette.com/superchargers/

    http://www.d3cadillac.com/contact

Personally I'm not a fan of D3. They wouldn't sell me an idler pulley unless I bought the entire upgrade kit. Which I didn't need at the time. The guy on the phone was a bit rude. Everyone else seems to like them and say they do OK work.
