If you want a slower car 0-60, get the stick.
If you want to run the quarter mile slower, get the stick.
If you think you are a smarter and faster shifter than a computer, get the stick.
If you want your car to force you into 4th gear from 1st, get the stick.
If you care about gas mileage in a 556 HP car, get the stick.
If you drive better one handed, get the stick.
If you regularly drive between 175 & 191 MPH, get the stick.
If it's important to you to impress the kid at valet, get the stick.
If you think you have the skills required to beat John around the Nurgurgring, get the stick.
If you only bought your car for future collector value, get the stick.
    lilred and lilred like this.

    Unfortunately, there is not...

The slush box is a better choice in the car if you want to be faster.

Yeah, it's cool to have a Caddi with a stick, but the vague references to "feeling more connected to the car" are just that, vague...

The auto, driven hard, will rock your world.

    It's faster too...

there's a dark side of the 90E you're not mentioning there. People have issues with the 90E bumping the rev-limiter in 3rd and refusing to shift running the 1/4 stock. It may be faster by a few tenths, but you'll pay twice as much to modify the car, twice as much time and energy to get your tune down right and all for the sake of a few tenths.

The auto will be faster in a 1/4- when it's working right, and trust me, that's easier said than done. I spent all day at MIR watching a 600whp V2 struggle to brush off 12.5-13s because they couldn't get the trans tune down right.

    Also,

As someone who's autocrossed a 90E, who's bumped into the rev limiter when the smarter-than-me computer is shifting, and who's been in the wrong gear more than once, the 90E is nothing special. Your analysis of it's overwhelming superiority is exagerated imo. If we were talking about a DCT or DSG, I would agree more, but we're talking about a torque converter auto. The manual mode is useless, and the sport shifting is good for what it is, but it's still a truck transmission.

The only place I would agree that a 90E is better by a noticeable margin is on an open road course, there's less of a chance of a miss-shift and you can go straight from gas to brake immediatly, I don't care how good you are at heel/toe shifting, anyone can brake exactly on time in an auto.

You know what the big problem is though? Driving an auto is booooring, I gave it a good chance, I really did(almost 2 years if you count the 80E in the G8), but I just find myself driving like an old lady anymore. If you bought a $70K sedan to go play on open road courses or go WOT a 1/4 at a time, you probaly have more time and money than I do. I didn't, so I'm going to pickup a manual and have fun with it the other 95% of the time when I'm just driving it around on public roads.

I don't believe that you guys with automatic transmissions are going to influence us with manuals, and vice versa, but it's good to have the faults of the automatic out in the open for potential buyers.

If you enjoy driving, get the manual. If you only like showing off and drinking your coffee in traffic, get an auto...

If you like stroking your stick all day; get the manual...

Can I assume you're not driving the Sepulveda pass daily with the M6?
