Enabling mirror tilt in reverse and the like

There were a couple of threads semi-recently regarding enabling some features that were "hidden", such as mirrror tilt in reverse. Whatever happened to this?

Hasn't panned out yet. The only official solution is that if you are the only driver of the car, to set user select#2 to be your rearward tilt. Very inconvenient (go into Park, then press #2, then reverse) compared to just having the function automatically start, but it is serviceable.

Re: Enabling mirror tilt in reverse and the like

I'm the only driver and I keep the mirror switch set to control the passenger side mirror. When I put the car in reverse, I just hold the direction button down for about 2 seconds and that's it. At least the mirror reverts to its regular position automatically when the car is started again.

    Best regards,

    Elie

I'm also waiting patiently for someone to figure out how to enable this feature on my 2010. Not having it is quite unexpected. Couldn't imagine this car wouldn't have this feature when I bought it. Learned my lesson.

The reverse mirror tilt, although appearance in the programming section of the user's manual says differently, was abandoned and does not work on the 2009 and later CTS-V models. You can program on it on, and it will not work. Why is there is progamming option for a feature that does not work? You will have ask Cadillac that question. Hopefully, it has been removed from the user's manual for 2012.

Why was it removed? Probably because not enough people liked it (that would be the originator of this thread) and did not use it (that would be me).

Does the feature still exist?, Only if the code to do it is still there. It is probably no longer there. I doubt there is a fix for this - other than what (multiple button pushes) has already been described by previous posters.

Maybe I am way off, but I would assume it was removed for longevity concerns. I always disabled that stuff on my CTSs because I didn't want the mirror and seat motors wearing out.

There are those of us who live in urban environments and find this feature critical. While now having owned the car, I would have bought it knowing that the mirrors do not auto-tilt. However, if I had known that the mirrors did not auto-tilt, I probably never would have driven it, and thus, would not have bought it. If mirror failure was the reason the feature was eliminated, there is a mirror, not feature problem. Just my opinion.

They must have allowed it in the very early stages of the 2009 model year, because I can enable the reverse tilt-down for either mirror. Had this on my 2004, glad to have it on my 2009.

How do you enable it? Is there a button or do you do it from the little settings thing in the guage area?

I have owned three cars with this feature, with 150000 miles between them. I had no issues with mirror motors wearing out. I think it's a non-concern.

The reason the feature was disabled was reportedly consumer confusion, when the issue was discussed here in the past. I fail to see why anyone would be confused by this feature, however.

Motor longevity or "mirror failure", as neuronbob says, is not an issue. People who deprive themselves of good features because of worry over such nonsense are kidding themselves. Consumer confusion. I doubt it. Everything that GM does is driven by cost saving (i.e., the bottom line). GM doesn't care about the consumer as long as it doesn't drive down the bottom line.

I have a 2009 CTS-V and, as I said, the feature can be enabled but it doesn't work. unc-v does not say it worked. He only indicates that he enabled it. This was possible on 2009 CTS-Vs, but it still doesn't work.

gevvvvv, there is no magic button. It doesn't work on later model CTS-Vs.

Sorry, that I didn't also mention that when I enable the reverse tilt down, it subsequently tilts the respective mirror down. I have the passenger side mirror set to tilt down and every time I go into reverse, voila the passenger mirror tilts down. This setting is in the menu with all of the user settings. I did not know this was not a feature of everyone else's V2s until I saw threads like this talking about why they can't have their mirror tilt down.

unc-v, is your car an early build 2009, say from August 2008? My '08 CTS had this feature, and I really appreciated it, but my '09 V built Feb '09 does not, and I miss it.
