ugh. i have the thing laying on my desk in the package yet. i haven't even hit 200 miles on it yet, but i haven't see the 1-4 thing once, in fact i forgot it had it til i read the manual.

had i not already bought it, i probably wouldn't buy it, but with it laying here, i have a sneaking suspicion i'll be crawling under there to install it soon out of stubbornness, same way as i'd eat all 5 plates on golden corral in the old days making myself sick so i wouldn't feel like i wasted the $8 the buffet cost me.

would've done it today, but was too busy removing all the badges. dental floss really does work better than a plastic scraper, which of course i learned later in the project vs. earlier.

well, just tried to back the V out of the garage, and would not shift into reverse for anything. 1-6, smooth as silk. turned it off, back on, set and unset parking brake, seatbelt, you name it, no reverse. jacked it up, yanked the skip shift bypass, climbed in w/o even turning the key, went into reverse no problem. dropped back on ground, reverse works fine. no error codes, nothing.

anyone wants to buy a cheap skip shift bypass, let me know.

was trying to thing why on earth that eliminator would cause a reverse lockout. do these cars have some kind of mechanism that prevents shifting into reverse if you're moving forward? is that same solenoid that controls the 1-4 bypass also control that? only thing that even begins to make sense.

There is a reverse lockout solenoid that prevents accidentally going into reverse when going forward. It is different than the skip shift solenoid. When I had my Camaro, I bypassed the skip shift using a 50 cent resistor from Radio Shack.

A few years later, the reverse lockout solenoid went south and had to be replaced. I'd guess it's a similar arrangement on the V. I was doing some very careful shifting after it conked out and before I got a new one!
That being said, I'd suggest you take another look at how it was installed. You wouldn't be the 1st person to have that happen after installing the skip shift eliminator on the reverse lockout solenoid...

yep, that would explain it, as i clearly didn't know where to look for it and just kept poking around under there until i found a connector that looked like what i had in my hand. grrr. but thanks for making me feel better for there being a reason for it!

I have never had an issue with my 2011 but it did happen everytime I drove my Challenger. I am sure you can have the dealer program it out..
