Carbon Fiber Wrap on Dash (pics)

Well, after having some carbon fiber fabric sitting around the house for months now, I finally put some of the stuff on. It's called Neffy Wrap. Can't miss their site if you Google it.

As you can see, I chose to use the black CF wrap on the upper black obsidian center console and silver CF wrap on the strips on either side of the lower center console, as well as the trim pieces that run along the dash above the pipe accent lighting. I have not put wrap on the lower console yet (surrounding the gear shifter and the lid for the cup holder.) I may or may not do this some time later. The recessed area that is at the base of the shifter (with the red P, R, N and D letters) looks like it would be extremely difficult to wrap. It actually doesn't look too bad (black CF next to the glossy obsidian) because the top of the shifter is still obsidian as well as the three sections on the steering wheel. Another consideration about doing the lower console is beverage spillage. I'm not sure how well this fabric will stand up against my Starbucks mocha that I am always spilling.

First of all, as much as I like the way I came out, I don't necessarily recommend this to everyone. The problem is that many of the buttons on the center console have JUST ENOUGH clearance to work as intended. I found out the hard way (after thinking I had thought of everything - ha ha) that once I added the fabric some of the buttons didn't operate as smoothly, if at all. The worst culprits were the top row, consisting of the nav screen up/down button, sport/tour suspension, etc. This required some very labor-intensive trimming of the back of the buttons in order to free them up. Consequently, there is some light illuminating from behind that wasn't there before. Only noticeable at night, but nonetheless another unanticipated issue. Most people (excluding myself of course) will probably never notice. That particular row of buttons were worse than the others, and were the only ones that required trimming. The other buttons still work smoothly, although I had to trim the CF wrap from behind a few times in order to free them completely up. Also, the volume and tune dials turn slightly stiffer than before, but not distractingly so. And the cigarette lighter door requires more pressure to open and close than before. An alternative to the button cutting would have been to slightly widen the openings, increasing the gap between the buttons and the console itself. This would have required tools I didn't have, and would have had to have been darn near perfect to have looked good in the end.

The pieces I did in silver wrap were easy to do in comparison, and fit right back in place as before, if not a little bit tighter of course. In the future I will probably do the strips in the door panels to match. I might even do the areas surrounding the door latches and/or outer vents in black CF wrap. We'll see.

Overall, I think it looks very good. Much better in person. Pictures don't do it justice. I think it looks MUCH better than the glossy obsidian, which always looked cheap to me.

Good job on the CF install! Just my opinion and not meant as a knock on you, but I like the Black CF better and would have liked to see it all one color CF as opposed to the black and silver. Other than that, it looks good!

It's the Escort 9500ix. I absolutely love it. There's really nothing to take pictures of though. It's suction-cupped to the windshield and there's a wire going from it up to the rear-view mirror and then snaked around to the rear-seat cigarette lighter via the headliner, A-pillar, etc. I bought it with the hard-wire kit, also made my Escort. Couldn't be happier really.

Well it's certainly nothing I can't re-do. I thought about doing it all in black, but I think the V already has a overly dark interior. I thought the silver might brighten it up a bit. If I decide at a later time to change it, the old fabric should peel off and I can put black on in its place.

I really like this. However, it doesn't go with the other fake carbon pieces in the car very well. I think the carbon pieces on the sides of the shift knob would look good black and the whole center Carbon. As well as the pieces in the dash.

I really like this. I am wanting someone to make true carbon fiber replacement pieces. I like the look of the black obsidian, but the crap scratches like nothing else. It looked good for the 2 seconds when it was not scratched, then looks like $h!t from then on.

    I like your shoes...... JK

I think the CF looks better than the obsidian. However, I think it should be all one CF color. Great job installing. I would be hesitant to attempt it myself.

Once you settle on a color you like and get the install perfect, I'd take the faceplate off and have it clearcoated at a paint shop. Not only will it hold up better, but it'll make it look more "real".

    How is that applied?
Is it very hard to do??

Can that be done to the rear bumper insert instead of paying hennessey 500 bucks?

I'm planning on doing close to the same thing. BUT, I'd leave the gloss black sections alone. They look good as is. The only part of the interior that I want to change, is covering the silve fake carbon pieces in real carbon fiber. I was going to do a dry fiber wrap, but after seeing this I'll end up coating them in resin after I wrap them.

    +5 for the effort man.

-2 for coating the black parts and using Silver weave.

I hate the gloss black stock dash.. I'm still waiting for someone to release a real CF replacement for the everything in the car. Seeing your work made me drool, I just wish you wrapped it all the way back. The gloss is like the playstation 3, very quick to stain gather dust etc.
