Amsoil recommends additional friction modifier with their lube. That's a new thing with them and not needed on the V1. So I would add modifier with any lube. Does your local place have that? If not, I'd order Amsoil or get Mobil 1 and go to your dealer for GM modifier...

Here's to a trouble-free track day. And by track day, I assume you mean the proper track with twisties and stuff?

Re: Rear end fluid change - not happy

changed my fluid out about 300 miles ago, and i'm getting a lot of whining at 40mph. car is a 2010 with 11k miles. i used factory spec dexron from the dealer and did not add the friction modifier. looks like i'm going to have to do it again and add the modifier. can't decide whether i'm going to get the dexron again, or go with royal purple. either way, i'm throwing the additive in this time.

Dexron rear end fluid? I thought the Dexron VI was for the trans. You did use a 75W-90 though, right? The manual does state to use the additive for the limited slips.

i used the GM part number referenced in this thread #89021677, which supposedly has the additive built in. i'll probably stick with that, but add in the modifier. thank god i have a lift

AAAARRGGHHH!!! changed the fluid out with royal purple, and added the friction modifier. still whines like a bitch at 40mph. doesn't whine at any other mph---only 40mph. can't make up my mind----do i live with it--i have a 7 year powertrain warranty. or do i roll the dice with some 20 year old idiot swapping in a whole new rear end into my car. as of right now, i have absolutely no other issues--car drives like a dream, straight as an arrow, and pulls like a raped ape. problem is i drive the car every day (in the summer) 4 miles to work at 30-50mph. i've seen that others have had their rear ends replaced--does this reliably take care of the whine??

Who/what caused the whine though? Was it there from the beginning?

With Amsoil, they changed it to where you do need it. Not sure about Red Line but I'd doit!
