Thanks for the advice - see below. I think I got it. Mine is a sedan and I agree that I cannot stand the Ultraview - useless on a car like this. If I want the open road I drive my XLR.

Beautiful car! The clear lenses on the rear are really striking. I've seen a few V6 CTSs running around in the US that have those added as aftermarket.

Thank you. The difference is that the US clear lens option does not have the amber turn signal in it - it simply has the usual red on red behind a clear lens. You will notice that the C7 Corvette and the new GM large SUVs (Tahoe/Suburban/Escalade) now all have amber turn signals. GM has gotten fed up with waiting for the NHTSA to follow the EU rules that apply world wide on amber turn signals and has adopted them. Bravo GM - they are a good safety feature and also give their vehicles a slightly more sophisticated international look. Another feature that is a legal requirement around the world is foldable wing mirrors. On most new high-end GM vehicles this is now standard. This is another EU standard that is a requirement outside of North America. On the CTS-V and Escalade they even have an automatic fold-back feature. Not so on my STS-V. If you have ever been swiped by a wing mirror you will appreciate the difference between the pliable and the hard.

PS Love the CTS-V wagon and I do believe it is a future collectible since they built so few and at some point US car owners will appreciate that for 90% of their hauling needs a wagon is all that is necessary. We look a bit ridiculous on US roads driving all these bloated SUVs with soccer mothers that can barely see over the steering wheel herding them down the street. Yes I own an Escalade but I only use it to go skiing with my family or to haul bikes on vacation.

Thank you. I will also venture to say the Escalade is a real truck. My family had a Suburban while I was growing up. I learned to drive in it and my parents actually just replaced it earlier this year. Fantastic vehicle. Yes, it's large and inefficient but it also has a tremendous amount of cargo room, handles very well in any weather, or comfortably seats 8-9 people. There are plenty of SUVs/CUVs that have the same fuel economy or size that seat no more adults than a sedan. Where is the sense in that?

I too am glad to see the US, GM included, adopting the EU standards. The fender mounted turn signals, folding mirrors etc should all be standard. Oddly, the amber rear turn signals have come and gone in the US. Back around 1980 they were standard on many GM cars including full size Buicks. Those were the years that America was toying with the merge toward using the metric system too. After a few years they went away. Then around 2000 many cars again appeared with them, when looking "European" was perceived by most people to be a selling point for a product. They weren't adopted across the board, but amber turn signals were common on Hondas and Toyotas in addition to some GM models right up to the mid 2000's. Since then however we've seen a wholesale switch. The new Regal which in so many ways is lifted straight from the Open Insignia did away with the amber rear turn signals. Why? It still had the fender mounted signals for 2011. Even some recent BMWs have clear lenses with red bulbs in back. It's ridiculous to me. I do hope we go back as it truly is a safety feature. I've seen many a Ford with two burned out rear bulbs; the CHMSL and one tail light, to the effect that if it has the opposite blinker on you have no way to tell if it is braking or not. The only exception for me actually is the V wagon. With the tall rear lights I prefer the red to having clear or amber lights. Just my stylistic preference. It would not be a "deal killer" for me for sure but I think the design flows better, especially with the large CHMSL atop the tailgate.

You are right on the v-wagon. Interestingly the NHTSA was able to do the study that proved that amber turn signal clusters reduce rear end collisions because they were able to find Toyotas and Hondas that you mention above that had switched from all red to amber/red from one model year to the next but the cars were the same (in other words it was not a model year changeover). And what the found was that the with amber got hit from behind with less frequency - what a surprise.

    2011 Coupe with graphite grills

    Nice PICs of your cars!

I thought some might like to see a coupe with the grills painted to match the wheels. It was done with a hardened acrylic enamel which should prove to be quite chip resistant - hope so. I like the metallic luster.

I am having trouble deciding if I should paint the hood chrome to match. My wife thinks it would look like a gangster car, and, what's wrong with that?

I bought my coupe in March of this year. It had less than 3,000 miles on it then after having sat for some time, unused. It is the standard Black Diamond Edition.

I bought a set of grills to paint so that I could preserve the originals to be able to restore the car to original. FYI, it took me almost all day to R&R the grills after they were painted. I did work carefully to avoid damage and keep the car right.

Because I live in the Ohio snow belt, the car is now stored for the winter, up on a four post lift, over where I park my 07 Tundra. The PIC is in front of that garage. That's a story in itself because I modified the garage to get enough height. Actually the car is on blocks, without wheels, to gain a couple of extra inches under the lift for the truck.

Re: 2011 Coupe with graphite grills

After lurking in the market for about a year I finally picked up a low mileage V Coupe on Thursday. I initially tried to work with my local dealer to locate one but they kept sending me things outside my wish list with too many miles. Found this loaded 11 Black Diamond Coupe with 7300 miles in Green Bay Wisconsin. Flew up with the wife and drove her home 15 hours 900 miles. Needless to say the best road trip I've done yet! Glad to finally be part of the community. Snapped a quick pic by the stadium on the way out.

    Nice ride!
I got mine in March. It had 2900 miles then - a little over 8,000 now.
Since it is now winter in the Cleveland area, mine us stored on a lift above where I park my Tundra.
Needless to say, I look forward to Spring.

    Enjoy!

Remember, that thing is zero to jail in about twelve seconds.

Made some changes to my '09 for '14...

After pioneering the "noir" look back in '09 (pics earlier in this thread somewhere), I decided to swap out my blacked-out grilles for the OEM black chrome ones and changed the frames and the eyebrow from semi-gloss black to body color:

...also changed the rear garnish from semi-gloss black to body color and the wreath and crest from semi-gloss black to stock:
