This has been something that has had me raising an eyebrow a little. Tire height would be closer/better fit if Caddy went to a 295/35, instead of a 285/35. Why not go with the 295? Very strange...

How wide are the rims again?

295/35 is a very rare size.

285/35R19 & 255/40R19 are the stock BWM M5/M6 sizes, so tires are more widely available.

It would be just as strange on BMW's side as well. If all these cars used 295 setup, it would probably make that tire size less rare.

Just weird that they wouldn't want as close a match in terms of tire height as reasonably possible.

    In the Michelin PS2:

    255/40r19 is 27" tall
    285/35r19 is 26.9" tall

In the virtually not manufactured 295/35r19, you get the extra 0.1" of height, but BF Goodrich is the only major manufacturer who makes that size, and they only make it in the all-season, not a summer tire. Everyone else makes 295/30r19, which is too short.

295s would promote more understeer, which, I suppose, they could have tuned out to more neutral handling, but then you still have the availability issue everyones mentioned.

Those slackers just need to start making the right sizes then!
