I guess no one is biting though. MBUSA is has not allowed dealers in the past to gouge by mark up. Wonder what Cadillac will allow for V2?

LOL @ 30k markup. The sad part is that there's people with so much money to burn that they don't care.

FYI, manufacturers CAN NOT prevent the Dealers from marking up cars. They can threaten all they want, but they have no control over what the Dealers sell their cars for. Nissan toyed with several ideas to keep GT-Rs from being scalped- at one point they even floated the notion that any GT-R re-sold within the first 6 months would have its warranty voided (to keep people from buying them and throwing them on eBay for a $30k profit), but it would be illegal.

There are many things the Manufacturers do to try and maintain their image (like not cooperating on any advertising costs if we use words like "Clearance", "Blowout", etc to try and discourage us from running those type of ads), but in the end the market determines the price of a car.

My Dad's neighbor bought a 2006 Z06 brand new for $102K.... my Dad waited one year and got a 2007 brand new with more options for $75K.

Some people just do not care!

Agreed, but it's nothing new. One of my Exotic owners stopped in the other day to chat and told me about the new Aston Martin he went and looked at, and they had a $50k bump on it.

BMWs web site will let you build your own M3. Base MSRP is $53,800, but that's only if you want cloth seats, no Nav, no backup sensors, no XM, etc, etc..... Add on the options and it hits $70k real quick.

BMWs always lack torque and there is no way I would pay $70K for a car with the power specs the new M3 has. BMWs also have the ugliest interiors I have EVER seen in ANY car.

$72K fully loaded (every friggin' option I could add to it) Which is a lot IMO.
    BTW,
Edmunds got 4.3sec. 0-60 and said the stopping distance (with no exotic brake parts) managed the shortest they've seen yet. I know you guys hate hearing it but the weight makes a difference. The car only weights 3700lbs.

Re: M3 Pricing gives V2 breathing room

Got to remember that this car and it's predicessor are designed for racing series around the world. V2 will not be in any series on a world level. It is too big and too heavy.

The V8 M3 was brought a few years in alms or rolex series and porsche complained as it was not a production E46 with minimum number of units made.

Looks the 911 boys might have to bring out the turbo version to compete.

It is not only sell on Monday for this league.

    Hence the premiums.

Re: M3 Pricing gives V2 breathing room

4.3 is impressive with less than 300tq, but I wonder why BMW shows 4.7 if the car is capable of so much more? http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx

Either way, the M3 has always been a performance machine with no focus on comfort or amenities, so it really doesn't fit in this Prestige Luxury Sedan segment. The comparison I'm waiting to see is the M5/E63/CTS-V shootout- that one should be a blast. 3 cars of similar size and features, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Whoops- page 3 of that M3 article shows a true 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds, not 4.3 like the body of the article stated. The 4.3 seconds was acheived with a rollout.
