    Cobra Radar Detector "S" series

Installed the new Iradar by Cobra. It's the S120R that connects to your iphone. After a week I finally got hit by laser radar. I wasn't speeding at the time... but the thing notified me far in advance. The detector is community based also. So it lets me know when someone else reports activity in the area. So far I love it!

Took awhile to install though. Had to pull the front bumper off (first time doing this). Took me awhile to find all the plastic pull tabs. The 10mm bolt inside the fender was the biggest pain. But once everything was off it was easy to put back together. Here's a shot of the detector inside my grill.

Nice install. You can hardly see it. I live in WA state and I've been looking at Lidar diffusers/jammers. They seem to be pretty much hit and miss.

It's good to know that your detector gave you fair warning. I was under the impression that they wouldn't.

ok...not trying to be a smart ass here. But what is the point of one of these? You do realize that once it goes off you've already been hit by the radar/laser right? Unless you get one where the company claims they will pay your ticket, I guess I don't really understand why people buy them.

With GPS and apps like Waze, we're getting advanced warning in ways unimaginable just a couple years ago...

Huge fan of the GPS functionality of the escort series. Cannot believe people live without it and the constant beeping and false signals...

i Have the escort built in model with jammers and KA band. when hit with laser, the laser is jammed and pd do not get a reading. Once laser signal is jammed my jammers turn off, so when he re-shoots laser he will get a reading..by that time hopefully u have slowed down....works great..

Not exactly. In NC they use mostly K and Ka bands. We get lots of rebound as our State Troopers leave their radar on mostly vs. point and shoot tactics in FL or GA that I've experienced. I get 1 mile to 1.5 mile warnings from my detector long before I see the officers. But yes, if you get hit with laser, you're cooked.

Not exactly. With laser, you can have fragments pass the edge of cars or pass through the windshield and all the way through.

I've had people in front of me get targeted, yet I got the warning. Drive Amy of the tunnels in Boston and enjoy light fragments that bounce off tunnel walls and give advance warning before you are ever in line of sight...

"On the whole" if your laser detector goes off, the officer has your speed. It is rare to get a false reading.

Part of the reason I don't ride without one is I have an R1. Having a radar detector has saved me by letting me know I am getting hit. For example, you are cruising down the freeway at 20mph over the speed limit, detector goes off, you get a ticket for 20 over. If you don't have one and the cop is lighting you up without you knowing, you may decide to gun it to pass someone. Instead of that 20 over ticket, its a 50 over ticket and you go to jail. It's saved me in the past.
