    Thanks for the NLS suggestions. I'll give her another try tomorrow. The problem with higher gears is that I'll be doing about 130mph if I NLS from 4-5 and about 160mph from 5-6!

    Someone want to make a video of their no lift shifting? That one by Heinricy isn't so great.

    I've never tried NLS. I just wanted time to become supremely used to my shifter first, and yes, I've had my wagon for nine months now. I keep making a mentally huge deal out of the process because it is so unnatural to me.

    This has been my hold up but I decided I'd try it. It's just felt like a poorly coordinated shift despite me having shifted smoothly and quickly. I guess watching some of the Cobalt SS no lift shifts, it's the same. The guy's cameras bounce all over the place during the shift.

    I think the acceleration benefits for the no lift shift are up to 3rd gear.
    By then, I would just shift 4-6 the usual way...

    If you want to do a valid 1/4 mile you will need to NLS through 4th

    No lift shifting, or power shifting as I used to call it isn't a new thing, so what does the V do that assists this.

    I used to no lift shift in my 1999 Corvette and Trans Am before that, and it worked great unless you missed a shift....that was bad....bad


    I'm assuming it assists by making it more smooth, less risky?

    I believe the software prevents the engine from revving beyond redline...

    But a rev-limiter does that. Is no-lift-shifting just an opportunistic name for the rev-limiter that's part of every modern engine's ECU? Or does the programming go beyond that?

    A rev limiter CUTS power. No lift shift does not allow you to overrev where the power is CUT. It's just managed...

    Hence why many talk about bouncing off the rev limiter...

    It's the novices' guide to power shifting without the need to modulate the throttle.

    Similar to having launch control in a manual.
    I can understand having this in an auto where you can't modulate the engine speed at idle,
    But I always thought the clutch was your launch control in a manual.
    I had this discussion with a Chevy engineer at an auto show when the ZL1 was introduced.
    He agreed and said the launch control feature in a manual is idiot proofed for those who don't know how to properly perform a clutch drop...

    I do not understand the distinction. Can you rephrase?

    I thought no-lift shift was specifically about maintaining boost, hence its inclusion on the Chevy Cobolt SS Turbo and the CTS-V2 but not on, say, the Corvette.

    NLS holds power and boost while shifting. Not bouncing off the rev limiter or pulling power. Its better than power shifting from the old days cause even then you lifted the gas pedal pulling power and disengaging friction from the clutch plate so you could slam the next gear. BTW don't try that in the current V.

    If you ever hit the rev limiter in the V, you would understand.
    The cut off in power is very dramatic!
    Feels like you hit a brick wall.
    Some other cars will let you bounce off the limiter with little drama.
    But the V feels like someone slammed on the brakes...
