    nav DING

How do you shut off that annoying nav DING ?
I tried every setting, 3 times over, and the NAV will still DING at turns. It is so loud, and annoying.

You can't if you want voice instructions, they're connected. Just fuss at it.

On a side note, while it's talking try lowering the volume with the wheel buttons. If you're quick, you'll at least be able to lower the voice.

And it all can be set in Configuration, but they're connected.

    Re: nav DING

The ding is twice as loud as the voice guidance, and actually quite distracting. So no matter what volume I have the voice guidance set too, the DING is still way louder.

Unfortunately I find this true also. I turn off the voice when my son falls asleep, but then sometimes I'll miss a turn. If I find some solution I will post...

I call it the "please fasten your seat belts" ding. It sound exactly as if the pilot just clicked the fasten seat belts light on the airplanes.

Drives me insane but I can deal with it.

Mine is a 2009. I'd even buy a new nav disc if I can get rid of the DING.

Really does not bother me very much, it reminds me to take the corner right when the ding goes off.

How often do you guys use the nav system? Most of the time I am driving I know where I'm going so the nav is off and there is no dinging.

    Re: nav DING

Even when I can figure out how to get where I'm going I like to use the Nav because I sometimes find new and better ways to get there. A lot of times we use the car when we are going to some place far, then I definitely use the Nav.

Actually I like using map quest in my phone better. It's easier to use and I put an ear bud in my left ear so I can hear the directions and I can still talk to other people in the car. I also have the option of putting a bud in my right ear if the other occupants of the car are annoying me and I don't want to hear them anymore. :-))

As someone who uses a nav and drives for a living, the voice is always off...

    +1.
I don't drive for a living, but I turned the voice off on the NAV 2 years ago and haven't had it on since. When I'm following directions on the NAV in an unfamiliar area, that white vertical bar on the screen that fills up exactly at the intersection works for me, especially in conjunction with looking ahead by using the directions screen that tells you all the turns on your route and how far it is between them. Took a little while to learn to trust that white bar, but it's foolproof!

    Best regards,

    Elie
