    Major Tire Swapping drama

Long morning...I bought some Pirelli Sottozeros (255s all around) as winter tires, I've been to 3 tire shops this morning and have spoken to about 6 more trying to get someone to agree to put them on my stock V rims (black). It seems that everyone is afraid of using their equipment on my rims due to fear of scratching them. Has anyone else ran into this?

I was finally referred to a specialty rim shop that deals with huge rims (22"+), they are the only ones willing to take it on. What a pain in the ass. I'm now afraid I'm going to drive all the way down there and be told - "oops, we changed our mind and we won't do it either". Crossing my fingers...

All I can say is no tire shop I've gone to has ever been afraid of scratching my rims, they just go ahead and scratch them. I wish I could find one of these tire shops you speak of where they actually care about not scratching your rims. Actually that's not entirely true, the guys at Big O were very good about not scratching my rims so I take it back about them. But I wasn't putting 255s on either, so I don't know how they'd react to that.

The V1 rims would gouge badly when trying to remove the runflats. Maybe that's it...

I haven't had any problems with my rims at a local tire place. They do have a different machine for bigger wheels though.

Pep Boys replaced my PS2's with Conti's - not a scratch on my stock chrome rims - of course they really dug having such a unique and cool car in their midst - so I think they were extra special in their handling because of that!

thebigjimshow made a comment about scratches on the rims when replacing run-flats on the V1. I had three sets of run-flats replaced on my two V1s by the dealer and not a scratch.
