Some sunroof help please?

Remove this ad
I was going to try and adjust my sunroof since the dealers told me basically I'm nuts! After looking at the screws, I don't have the proper "star / allan" head wrench and I'll assume the screw is metric, which I lack those tools in the lower sizes.

Anyway, I recall years ago a service manager told me that if you can pull a dollar bill through the window and seal...it needs to be tightened. Well, not only can I pull it, I can push it...slide it from drivers side to 1/2 way to passenger side. To me too much play.

My question...those of you with sunroof and no wind noise....can you slide a bill between seal and window...and is it tight / snug or very loose.

(I notice just looking at it it seems a little cocked and when you close the door the roof somewhat "puffs" up)

Thanks in advance!

Re: Some sunroof help please?

First of all your dealers sucks because its been a known issue on the 08's air leaks. The screw is a torx not an Allen bit and on my CTS4 i cannot pull a bill through the seal.

Thanks in advance!
There is a Bulletin out on this problem. They replaced mine with a new style center support and front and back seals. Took about an hour labor.

I didn't realize your the same guy I gave an answer to 10 days ago. Why don't you stop screwing around and take it to a different dealer? You are under warranty!

Do you have the bulletin number? Our dealer has messed with ours off and on at least 3 times. Gets a bit better, then back to Hurricane Katrina outside the glass. I'd love to get it fixed as the warranty is about up and we're thinking of buying after the lease is up (Mama loves her CTS!)

I'll give you what's on my service order. This is for a 2008 Don't know if any of this is the Bulletin Number. Service told me there was a bulletin and here are the parts.
61CDZ Exterior Trim 527 WS1
1 15936285 Gutter
2 25852811 Seal

Replace the sunroof front & rear seals (roof seals faulty) With new style center support.
Their comment was "There should be no noise" Got no grief from service dept. Good Luck!

Re: Some sunroof help please?

Michigan man,
Do you have almost 100K on your car? Because you have a 4yr 100k bumper to bumper warranty. Check out your owners manual.

I agree with you 100 %. I've had the car into my local dealer 2 X for the same thing. No avail....it's wind turbulance!

The dealer that I purchased it from is 200 miles away. They told me the same thing....I am making an appointment for it next Friday! and telling them to FIX it!

By the way it is an '09.

I get tired of telling these dealers that there is a problem and they treat you as if you never driven a car before. Or they always have some febil excuse. What happened to customer satisfaction.

Re: Some sunroof help please?

I wonder if this fix also takes care of the squeaking ... styrofoam sound that I have when I hit a bump or go over uneven pavement.

Re: Some sunroof help please?

The only thing I can say is...try to pinpoint the area as you are driving, using your hand if possible...put pressure on the area and see if the noise subsides.

Bumper to bumper is 4 years, 50K miles. Powertrain and rust-through go out to 100K.

For the OP, where are you in MI? I had the sunroof "whistling" problem and took it back to my dealer (Audette, in W. Bloomfield), and they knew of the bulletin and took care of it on the first trip.

The screws are either Torx T-25 or 8mm socket. I carry a nut driver with the Torx bit in my trunk to adjust this every once in a while. Up until now I didn't know there was a service bulletin, so I'll have to take it in to get fixed.

Don't have a camera handy, but you should be able to see the screws when you open it in the tilt position. With the rear edge up, you should be able to see the screw between the seal and the glass. You don't need to remove it, only loosen it slightly.

Re: Some sunroof help please?

Thanks guys. U have the same issue. Took this to the dealer - no problems found!

This morning when I drove to the airport (70 - 80 mph) there was definitely wind noise. I slight pressure on the middle cross member and the noise was gone! I guess this calls for another trip the the dealer....how many more?.....
