I thought it would be interesting to know how many members of this forum hang on to their cars for more then a few years. It seems quite a few would rather lease or buy buy a new car every few years. Leasing is not for me and buying a new car every few years is not economically feasible so I tend to hang on to my cars longer then most. For example I have 3 1/2 cars.

1. My semi daily driver is 2005 Suburban Z71 fully loaded. I sold my 1990 Suburban with over 200k miles to buy the '05. Total of 15 years and only had to put a new tranny in it at 130K. Way to go GM.

2. I guess you can say this is my wife's daily driver since I sold her 1995 Blazer LT for the CTS. No need having 2 4WDs, especially in California.
The Cad is a DI fully loaded with the F3. We love this car and will most likely have it for many years.

3. Well my other semi daily driver, weather permitting, is my 1964 Nova SS. It just turned 45 years young and I'm proud to say I've owned it for 40 of the those years. This car has always been in the family and I'm the second owner, my brother in-law was the first. The Nova sold for just over $3,600 out the door. This car is extremely rare; I was told less the 1500 were made with these SS options. It is an all numbers matching with the original 283 V8 and Muncie 4speed. The car has been slightly modified with Disc brakes, the original 195 HP 283 CI taken out all the way to 301 CI with the usual tricks, balance/clearance, head work, cam, intake, ignition... etc. This car will eat the CTS in the 1/4 mile. Best time was a 13.21 ET at just over 100MPH. After that the CAD will kick it's ass but not bad for a senior citizen. The car has been appraised for over 30K but it will never be sold. This car could tell a lot of stories and I know them all.

1/2. I almost forgot about the 1/2. This is not a driver yet and never has been in the 12 years I've owned it. I bought it for one of my sons as a project that never quite got off the ground until recently. It is another Nova, 1962 convertible. It is what us unibody guys refer to as rotisserie restore instead of body off. The car is about a year away from rolling but when it does it will definitely turn heads. Motor and tranny has yet to be determined but it will be pumped. We put a sub frame clip by CPP as well as rack and pinion. Not looking for autocross handling but just a good cruiser. As you can see I love American iron and when I find something I like I keep it.

Re: Longevity

Nice pictures! We will all need to check back on this forum in 20 years to see if the CTS is headed for Nova status.

Re: Longevity

I tend to hold on to cars for 6-10 years depending on the maintenance upkeep..currently have an 03 Kia Sorento with 114K, an 04 Chevy Malibu Maxx with 137K, 06 Pontiac Solstice with 37k and the 09 CTS with 8k on it

not in any hurry to get rid of any of the older cars......all in great shape and running well

Re: Longevity

I sometimes wonder what cars will be like in Twenty years. With auto technology growing exponentially as well as oil supply and demand, and green energy factoring in, I think we will be seeing some significant changes compared to the last 20 years. The CTS may just become a classic sooner then we think but what a fine classic it will be.

Re: Longevity

1stCad,
Love the 64 Nova SS. This was my first car at age 16. It was also a factory 4-speed, 283 car. Had the 5 lug hubs & differential, V-8 emblems on the front lower fenders, etc. I built the crap out of a 350LT1 motor for it once the 283 was tired. I have fond memories of that car as well. I hope someday to buy another.

Re: Longevity

Typically I'll hold onto a car for around 5-years ~ I've kept a few longer than that.
