About to Purchase

Ok so..I've been searching for a 08/09 CTS to fit my price and needs for a few weeks now. I ran across a beautiful 08 Black/Black, sunroof, wood trim, navigation all the goods, with 8,000 miles for $34,000. I managed to talk them down to 30,000. Would you guys say this is worth jumping on? Oh and its got the performance package, which I only wanted for the awesome lights and fogs I'm assuming it has the Luxury Package FE2?? Only thing missing is the Direct Injection..but it may even have that. Advice??

I just did a scan of Fort Worth area '08 CTSs on autotrader.com and the $30k price seems to be in line - if it has FE2, DI, and Nav. If not - and if you're not in a hurry - I would keep looking around.

Is it at a GM dealership?

Re: About to Purchase

I sounds like a nice price, but I have some concerns:

- You don't seem to know enough about the options. I don't want you buying thinking it has this...and then being disapointed.
- Since this is used, make sure they sell it to you as "Cadillac Certified". You may need to pay extra, but it will force them to submit a thorough inspection to GM and will provide you with a 100K bumper to bumper warranty.

Otherwise, go get yourself a CTS!

Re: About to Purchase

Get the VIN. Go to your local Caddy dealer and find out what warranty issues, if any, this vehicle has had.

You my find out you can get a new one for close to the same payment since new car interest rates are generally better than used. Plus, GM has new money to loan and is eager to sell.

If you want to travel to Dallas, I can recommend Massey Cadillac. They gave us a HUGE, HUGE, discount back in July. P.M. me and I will get the salesman info to you.

Good luck with whatever you do but, as mentioned...do your homework.

Re: About to Purchase

look under the spare tire cover, make sure the vins match, and look for at least the following.
pdq or pdr for the lux package version, ly7 or llt for the motor type (also indicated in the vin), y42 and fe2 or y43 and fe3 for the handling/suspension level. 2008 cts-4 with awd came with j55 performance brakes if y42 so you can look for je5 or j55 as well.

Re: About to Purchase

exo128,

If you're serious, then I suggest that you snap a digital photo of the vehicle's window sticker or, alternatively, ask the salesman to give you a complete list of the vehicle's RPO codes, and then post the info here for feedback from forum members.

Don't know about RPO codes? Check out the GM/Cadillac CTS Online Order / Reference Guide. To get started, just click on the model year 2008 or 2009, then click "Ordering Info" > "Equipment Groups" > "With Additional Options."

Actually, ANY GM dealer can run that vin for you. Ask for a detailed build sheet or detailed RPO sheet. Ask for another report that shows maint history at GM; that will also show if vehicle has had a BLOCKED warranty. Same report will show date of manufact and date when vehicle first went into service.

Don't forget to buy at end of month when salesmen, sales mgr, and dealer are all needing to make their quotas.

Re: About to Purchase

If the car has DI, there will be a 3.6Direct Injection badge on the trunk lid in the lower left as you face the car.

Also, if it is a 2008 model year, you may wish to check whether it has Bluetooth. Those built starting sometime in the Spring of 2008 came with it; those built before did not (even if the manual discussed Bluetooth). I believe that if you turn the car on, turn on the audio system, press the handsfree button on the steering wheel and say Handsfree, then it will respond Handsfree Ready, and then say Bluetooth, and it should respond if it has Bluetooth.

Good luck. We love our CTS 3.6 DI AWD.

Re: About to Purchase

to the OP a quick way to tell roughly when the car was built is to look at the sticker on the driver door frame. gives month and year.
also the rpo code sticker on the spare cover has a date stamp but I'm not sure how closely that date relates to the build date.

See, I'm not sure if it has DI, its not from a GM dealership, so they dont know much about it. But i'm sure it includes a DI "badge" on the back next to the license plate right?? It looks like he got the tail lights smoked so maybe he removed the badge??
