haunted headrests

Remove this ad
I have an '08 CTS. If I adjust the driver's side headrest to it's lower most setting (all the way down) and then drive the car, the headrest raises itself to a higher position. I can do this every time I get in the car and it always goes up, never down. I felt foolish, but asked the dealer about it and they had the service manager look at it and no one can even conceive of what could be happening. I asked about the active headrests listed in the product material and they feed me some line about power headrests on some models and mine doesn't have it.
I think it has something to do with the crash avoidance function but can't find anything on this. Has anyone heard of a problem like this or a TSB on the subject. I have done several searches but can find nothing.
Please help me get the spooks out of my car.

Re: haunted headrests

That's strange! Does the headrest appear to be locked... meaning without pushing the button to release it, can you pull it up or push it down? Mine are hard to move at all; they're very tight even when trying to adjust them on purpose.

Re: haunted headrests

I'm thinking you have someone getting in your car and moving it on you.

Re: haunted headrests

My '05 Suburban does the same thing but it takes a few days to work its way up. Drivers side only.

Re: haunted headrests

There is a fix. The two headrest lock springs have to be replaced. Now it stays put. The ghost is gone; finally.
