| Recall on Passenger Restraint System Software I got a recall yesterday on the passenger restraint system software. It seems that it does not accurately know if a passenger is there or not. I got a related (?) phantom story.
I take my lunch to work every day. It usually weighs a couple of pounds with a couple of diet Pepsi's and such. If I bring it in a throw away type of plastic grocery bag and set it on the passenger seat, it does not signify that there is a passenger there. However, if I use one of those new reusable grocery bags that have the thermo reflective lining and set it on the seat, it does show that there is a passenger there and all the bells and whistles go off for the seat belt and turns on the passenger air bag. The funny thing is that I noticed that even if I put that thermo bag on the seat empty (less than a quarter of a pound), the seat belt alarms go off. I do not know how they detect if a passenger is there, but it must not be from a simple switch under the seat. Interesting non the less. |
