Valet or not to Valet?

Remove this ad
This has probably been asked before, but around the upcoming holidays I thought it might be good to bring it up.

With the remote keyless entry feature, how are you supposed to valet park at a restaurant if you've been shopping all day and don't want anyone to get into your trunk? You have to hand over your fob, right? I've been through the manual and no suggestions. Do I need to re-program on my DIC? My old car had a Valet Key which accessed the doors and ignition only.

What are your ideas?

If you have the folding rear seats, it's moot anyway - they can get in the trunk from inside the car OR just hit the trunk release inside the car - even if we didn't have fobs. It's all "a matter of trust" with the valet. I DO remove the key ring part with my other personal keys on the fob though.

Re: Valet or not to Valet?

Wow.... That's so right! I forgot all about the rear seat!

I guess..... NO to the Valet.

Finally got a "class" car worth pulling up to the valet service and now we can't if there are any valuables in the trunk.

Besides... don't want some punk behind the wheel of MY CTS!

Re: Valet or not to Valet?

I valeted as a kid. I'd NEVER give my car to a valet. I know what some of them do when it's in their possession. In addition, where they park them is usually pretty tight. Good opportunity for a door dent.

Re: Valet or not to Valet?

Good call on GM's part. Although I doubt it was intentional, the end result is the same.

I guess we'll all have to park the CTS ourselves. I'm sure we can find a nice big open parking lot so we can park the CTS as far away as possible. No door dings for me!

Re: Valet or not to Valet?

Got here by mistake from the "DTS" forum and am surprised that the CTS doesn't have a "valet key" function. My DTS came with a valet key and a rocker switch inside the glove box that allows me to disable the trunk, then lock the glove box with my regular key and then give the valet key to him/her since the valet key opens only the drivers door and starts the car.

Glove box and trunk can't be opened with the valet key. Of course, there is the issue of the folding rear seat in the CTS....

Re: Valet or not to Valet?

well the CTS is defined as Cadillac's "entry level" model. they probably guessed we're so tapped out after buying one that we can't afford a trunk full of valuables, or to eat at fancy restaurants.

If that was the case we would have bought a Honda Civic!

Re: Valet or not to Valet?

I valet my CTS the other time. I went to Castaway here in Burbank. It was valet only. I gave them only the fob. They did a good job at parking the cars. But they left my sunroof open. What if it rained that night. But i guess it was my mistake because I didn't close the sunroof when i let them valet the car.

Re: Valet or not to Valet?

If I could afford to purchase a nice car like the CTS any time I took a notion, I wouldn't have a problem with valet, but since I can't I'll not valet because I intend to keep mine 10 years. Lewis
