Audio/Nav Quirks

We just completed our first road trip in our 2008 CTS this past week. All I can say is wow...

However, I did pick up on a couple of strange operational quirks. I think these are actually problems but confess pilot error may be a factor.

The first involves the voice volume of the NAV system. It seems to jump back to the minimum setting on it's own occasionally. I haven't found what specific series of events seems to cause it to do this. We just keep resetting the voice volume when it occurs.

The second observation involves the daylight/night display dimming. I had understood this to be automatic, presumably to track day and night lighting conditions similar to the other lights. Ours doesn't seem to do anything, at least reliably. We have reverted to manually setting it each time we fire up the Caddy.

Have any of you experienced either of these? Has a cause been identified?

Thanks....

On the first, you might want to check the configuration instructions on page 2-30 of the manual.
On the second, you can set the screen for auto, day or night. See page 2-39 of the manual.

Re: Audio/Nav Quirks

If you try to turn the radio volume down while the Nav Voice is talking, you will turn down the Nav Voice. The auto light/dim display takes from a few seconds to maybe a minute to change so give it a chance to change first and if it still doesn't then you do have a problem. You can set both options as described earlier.

Re: Audio/Nav Quirks

I always suggest checking the manual to verify you are doing everything correctly. If you are and it's still not working right, just call your dealer and schedule your service. There are always going to be updates to fix various issues. I've got mine in right now for odd nav issues.

Re: Audio/Nav Quirks

Things appear to be set up correctly so I assume I have a technical issue. Would these two issues be addressed by NAV software?

Re: Audio/Nav Quirks

Inappropriate day/night switching was one of the issues listed on the TSB for the Nav software update. I never noticed this but had mine updated because of the problem with it trying to recalculate a route after stopping for food or fuel.

Any idea where I may get a copy of this TSB? Mine also struggles with resuming after stopping. Wasn't sure if it was pilot error or an issue. Sounds like I need to see where I'm at with respect to revisions and this TSB.

Thanks...
