I would disagree. That would be saying white is white. Have you seen the different shades of white? White diamond is certainly a different white as is black ice, to black.

Was it the same color Thunder Gray as on the new CTS?

I agree that white may be more noticeable in slight differences (although more often than not it is no longer white when it starts to look cream/beige). And adding a term like Raven or Ice, doesn't make it any different than what it is.

I was just illustrating the fact that car companies change their colours ever so slightly year to year, and give them a tasty new name, and people go ga-ga over the new colours which in fact, have changed very little. So little in fact, that only a person with that specific car would even notice, or care.

I'm just wondering, when someone else (for instance, someone without a CTS) asks you what colour your car is, do you actually say, "Raven Black, Blue Diamond," etc?

Cheers

I do...but maybe because I paid almost a $1,000 extra for the color.

I also force them to look at this website:
http://www.cadillac-chromaflair.com/

Although I think it is kind of cheesy to charge extra for certain colors, most of Cadillac's competitors have been doing this for years. I am just glad that Cadillac at least offers reasonable enhancements for the money (tintcoat, tricoat, chromaflair, etc.)

I also know it is cooler to complain than compliment, but I am also impressed with Cadillac's color offerings. IMHO there really isn't a bad one.

I get your point as well, but Black Raven and Black Ice will look very different in bright sunlight. Ive seen the 2 next to each other at dusk and you could see a difference from 5 feet. Black Ice sparkles in the sun, something Raven does not. Assuming the Malibu Black Metallic is the same as the CTS...

Interesting Article that I believe speaks to this issue

Interesting Article:
http://money.cnn.com/2007/04/09/auto...lors/index.htm

Excerpt:

Ford is working hard on, quite literally, the new black.

"Black is going to get more special and it's going to surprise and delight," said Susan Lampinen, Ford's chief designer for color and materials.

The new black will be used across Ford's line-up.

"We want to be the leaders in black," Lampinen said.

Re: BLACK ICE?? -- Anyone have BLACK ICE CTS Pics*

I saw an 09 at a local dealer a few weeks ago in Black Ice. I loved the color, and would have gotten it had I been ordering a car instead of buying an 08 leftover from dealer inventory. Black metallic has always been one of my favorites, and you CAN see the differences among it, the non-metallic black, and the thunder grey chromaflair.

Talking Re: BLACK ICE?? -- Anyone have BLACK ICE CTS Pics*

Black Ice may look duller than Ebony in the shade. You may even want to go over and dust the 'snow' off. I just picked my 2009 CTS-4 up from the dealer, and in the sun, this baby has a hue of it's own. It actually has fine glass particles in the paint to give it a deep (really cool) color. Yeah..Yeah, I hear some of you saying 'black is black'. Not really. If you live in the sun, walk around this car and it actually seems to change color. Light amount of pinstriping makes it even neater. Eat your Hearts out. Got it free.

Correction, young man. Black is one of the hardest colors to match because there are so many shades of black. Ask a body shop or paint company.

Here ya go. The lighting's a bit weird but you can get the idea.

This wasn't my first color choice but I love it. Raven just looks plain next to it.

Re: BLACK ICE?? -- Anyone have BLACK ICE CTS Pics*

Black ice has been discontinued, not available in 2010 models. Was not a popular color ordered.

Black Ice is really a very dark charcoal Grey that looks black, with a lot of metallic. I seen the color in person, local dealer had one sitting in the front row of the lot for months. I recall looking at it from the front and then walking around to the drivers side where the sun was shinning on it and you could see it was dark charcoal Grey, about as dark as you could get without being 100% black.

I considered buying it but I did not want the hassle of trying to keep it clean besides when I saw one in Blue Diamond I know that was the color I wanted.
