Ultraview LEAKED!

We had a big rain event yesterday... a couple of inches with very heavy rain for a while. When I got in the car, the headliner in front of my visor and down the driver's side pillar was wet. It did it once before when I washed it, but I thought maybe the roof was cracked open a tiny bit and didn't worry.

I poured a quart of water in the drain track with the roof open, yesterday and it drained out fine. The dealer checked the drains, too and they're working. They're going to pull the headliner to see if they can figure out what's going on.

Has anybody had this happen? If so what was the fix? I can't imagine enough water making it through the seal to do this!

Thanks!

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

It's probably the windshield, not the Ultraview.

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

Thanks Tony. Have you seen that happen on an '08 before? It only soaked in from the driver's pillar over to the midline of the roof above my visor. Also, great Avatar - The Borg rule (I'm Third of Five/II)

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

Might be a urethane issue with the w/shield, I hope not.. Check the front drain tubes at the sunroof module and along the a pillar for kinked hose. Also in the plant we have had issues with the glass panels not being adjusted correctly. Check the fit between the front and back glass panels, check for gaps using a 3X5 card, you should feel some resistance. at the very back outside corners of the front glass, make sure that it seals up good. I have seen several glass panels where the seal is bad. Good Luck

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

GREAT Feedback. Thanks for that! I'll try it this weekend and give the dealer feedback. We checked the tubes and although the right front one "gurgles" it's draining fine, as is the left one. If it's the "urethane issue" what does that take to fix; reseating the windshield? The way it wet the headliner, I don't think it's the windshield because it was wet behind the visor, in front of the sunroof and I imagine if the windshield was the problem it'd be wet in front of the visors since it's an 'uphill' slope to get to the place it was wet.

Good luck getting this solved. Remember, water behaves strangely when "leaking." It can travel "uphill" because of the wick phenomena. Just ask any roofer.

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

Were you driving the car during the rain?

We had an issue with a Subaru years ago where they never completed the seal around the windshield. It was easy to diagnose by a tech driving with a microphone and headset and listening for wind noise. If you wind gets through it's a pretty good indication water will too.

Maybe ask them to try this and see.

Good luck!

Jay

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

IMHO, you have a warranty so just let the dealer mess with it. You screw something up trying to be Mr. Fix then you have to eat it.

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

Interesting that today I received a recall notice on my 08 Buick Enclave for a leaking sunroof. It has an ultraview type of roof. Repair is to install a drain tube extension. May be a coincidence or could be a design problem impacting other cars too.

Re: Ultraview LEAKED!

Thanks for the update on your Buick. Tropical Storm Hanna came through and dropped 5.5 inches in my driveway and not a leak to be found?! I have an idea it's a seal that acts funky when closing the roof sometimes. I'll get it in to the dealer soon.
